I wonder if there’s just some sort of switch in their brains that didn’t get clicked on, like that to them makes perfect sense to be a equal comparison and even when you explain to them, they won’t agree with nor understand.

It's natural for people to try to let you know how they "understand" what you're experiencing. It's nearly always a bad idea. Frankly, it's not great listening skills at the very least. At worst, it's just terrible. If you're aware of something going on with someone, just be a shoulder if you can. Don't offer an example of your experience.
