This is a good tip BUT can have its downside. I did this but when driving my arm was directly between my phone and my ears and as such it blocked much of the noise. Having my phone in direct line to my ears provides the maximum noise.

Obviously this will vary with people and cars

My wife killed her phone this way. There was some moisture inside the cup holder and she put the phone in, charging port down and some moisture went in and shorted the charging port.

Get an FM transmitter or cassette deck adapter to connect your phone to if you have an old car.

I have a old car and I bought a small portable speaker years ago. I have it in my cupholder and connect it by Blu tooth to my phone. It works perfectly and is always loud enough.

This is the answer. I drive a 20+ year old truck and the FM transmitters work great. Just see if you can find one with a power switch so you don’t have to keep plugging and unplugging.
