Instead of starting brushing right at the root, start at the tips to get the bottom knots out, then work your way up. I learned this years ago, it seems obvious enough but it wasn't obvious enough to me lol But starting at the root and going straight through a section makes it so the knots all bunch up at the tips, so when you get rid of the bottom knots first, you have a clear path for the higher ups knots to slip through.

In our house Im the master of brushing little girls hair with minimal tears and screaming. Brushing from the tips and gripping hair tight to place the tension there instead of the scalp are the keys.
