I hope they find this fella. I caution anyone who might volunteer to anticipate how they might feel upon finding a dead body, especially if the person's sister is at the scene. Search and Rescue professionals have training for this scenario and they have access to followup counseling and support services to help them process the experience.

100% great point. I use to work in an industry where I was exposed to some pretty extreme trauma. You don’t forget those nights. You remember some of the worst details so vividly. I was young and didn’t have a healthy coping mechanism so it was good that I moved on.

I'm in North Chelmsford and have a drone. I could do some short runs Friday around noon if you DM me where along the river they'd like to have checked.

I’ll DM his sister right now and get back to you asap. I know his belongings were found under the Aiken st Bridge around 10am Sunday. I am unsure which side of the river though. Edit: spelling

Does that mean under the bridge where Aiken St goes over the Merrimack River, in Lowell?

BubinatorX OP t1_japcr37 wrote

I believe so. It’s hard for me to picture the area. I haven’t been out that way in a v long time. I’m assuming there’s a path under the bridge along the waters edge? Trying to get more details.

miratim t1_japcwo2 wrote

Yeah there's walking paths on both sides of the river under the bridge. There's also homeless encampments on the southern side.

TheSinisterShlep t1_jaqumo6 wrote

Yup, that's the spot. Can be a bad spot over there if you're not careful. Those encampment have really taken off over the last couple years.

Yeah they have. Mental illness and fentanyl really hasn’t helped. It’s really sad.

That little dog park right at that roundabout has turned into a huge camp.

His sister said that they are starting at the Aiken st bridge and heading towards dracut/metuen and that if he’s down there they’re not sure how far he’d get. Its day 6 now. She mentioned with that the water temps it’s likely that he had sunk.

I asked someone people with drones if they're interested. I know not all drones are heavy duty and the winds above the river can be strong. Also not sure who is around.

Have you contacted Lowell police? I was told they have search drones.

a_differentShadeofU t1_jaxa435 wrote

Police said their drones didn’t pick anything up. State Police water rescue can be in the area Wednesday the earliest with a sonar scanner. Due to weather & other rescue missions of missing people that’s the soonest. Dracut PD said it’s not safe conditions to put a boat in the water.

I heard that too. Myself and a couple other people I haven’t spoken to in a while are all on the horn updating one another. I’m not sure what I hope for at this point other than closure for his family. I just have a really bad feeling that the worst possible outcome is where this is all headed. I hope you have people to talk to and have around if you need them over the next few weeks. If not feel free to reach out. It’s gonna be hard.

BubinatorX OP t1_jaouz2r wrote

Thank you & yes the police have definitely been notified. They’re likely going to have a dive team search for him. His poor sister is desperate for answers and can’t wait any longer. Thank you for passing the word.

I’ve got a good support system & have been taking to his sister. I really appreciate your hospitality and it’s the same here. Also been updating friends who aren’t all on the same socials and yes I want closure for them all, too.

His bag was found under the Aiken at Bridge Sun morning by a couple. A few days later those people answered his phone and told his sister where they found his stuff. The next day they returned his bag and gave her more details. I am unsure which side of the bridge his belongings were found.

I haven’t seen the guy in years but he has always been nice to me and kind to my wife. Everyone who’s family is in one of these situations deserves an answer.

This is heartbreaking. I live up Aiken Ave. I feel like so much happens at the bridge.

BubinatorX OP t1_japap84 wrote

Sure is. I don’t use Facebook but my wife has been showing me updates and my heart just aches for his family. I feel like everyone knows that people have been going there and to other bridges across the city for a long, long time. That river is dangerous

Someone I used to work with a father died on the River. Its so dangerous.

BubinatorX OP t1_japoa38 wrote

You’re not kidding. I know of two people that died off the university ave bridge. One fell and the other jumped. The water is shallow, rocky and extremely fast out that way. I imagine it’s pretty rough now with all the rain over the past few months. Be good!

Chucks a friend of mine, too. This is so frustrating & upsetting

BubinatorX OP t1_jaxj7kg wrote

I’m really sorry. I haven’t seen him in a few years but I’d always consider him a friend. He’s a funny and person. It’s been a really hard week thinking about him. Be good.

Here's a link to a Lowell Sun article which shows a different picture of Michael. It's good to see more photos of someone to get a clearer picture. I see a lot of folks on the street between where I live and work. So I am keeping my eye open.

Also he's 5'10" so not a short person.
