I know plenty of local spots but many are noisy, crowded, and I feel conspicuous if we hang around for more than 2 hours.

I'm looking for recommendations where a couple can sit and have some great conversation without yelling over the din of the crowd, where we can order drinks and apps and wait for a while before ordering the entree, and then not feel rushed to take off after we're done. Let's say within a 10 mile radius of Lowell?

The Keep no doubt. Great menu, chill vibe, and the bar is separated somewhat from the dining room. Grab the corner seat near the window in the dining area if you can.

110 Grill maybe. Dining room seems fairly quiet. Moonstones as someone said would be a good one too

Try Ya Mas - the food is amazing, and the restaurant is beautiful and pretty quiet. They have fun cocktails as well, and a little bar if you want to linger after you’ve eaten

Captain John’s on Westford St.

  • great fried seafood
  • no one will rush your meal
  • the entertainment is always present

I know you asked for a quiet setting to enjoy with a partner, but sometimes you need some shenanigans nearby to set the tone for an enjoyable night.

Captain John’s is a good place to have defend yourself from westford st locals. I lived on westford st for years and always hated that place. I get it, they have a good frozen fried haddock plate….. doesn’t mean I want to defend myself from the 50 year old guy whose still talking about Lowell high.

You’re not wrong…

Tangent: the internet/reddit is such a fascinating place sometimes. Yes we are in a sub specific to a city and it’s very likely we have shared experiences as members of said sub. Its interesting though when you come across someone via reddit who has a different opinion but also shares so many commonalities:

  • I too lived off Westford St for many years dating back to when Pages pharmacy was still there.
  • I too was a medic (91B) in the Army
  • I consider Tool and Pink Floyd to be in my top 3 bands (most of the trips I take back to Lowell over the years were to see these bands at the Garden)
  • I went to UMass Lowell
  • I could talk about Goldeneye/SOCOM/Mortal Kombat for days on end
  • I play disc golf (never played Maple Hill but enjoy my home course in Fountain Hills)
  • I’m not an ape but love me some AMC (average 6 to 8 visits a month as a consumer)

It’s likely that 50 year old still talking about Lowell High (probably wrestling) is someone I know or grew up with. In retrospect, I should have ended my comment with a “/s” and clearly told OP I was mostly joking (even if my own mother eats there at least a couple times a month — that fried haddock is the epitome of comfort food for many). I hope she/he had a nice dinner somewhere in Lowell.

Cheers! Lol it really can be fascinating at times. I’m at Muldoon throwing discs into trees a couple times a week usually.

Is it really frozen? They make a pretty big deal about getting their fish fresh every day. I've had the baked Haddock and it's amazing.
