[D] Ethics of minecraft stable diffusion

I am thinking about making a 3D version of stable-diffusion that allows generation of minecraft blocks to build structures. How likely is it that I would be sued, given that I would probably scrape the builds off of planet minecraft? I have seen what happened with stable diffusion, and I wondered if the same thing would happen in my case. Thoughts?

If you are successful in getting noticed, you may get sued. If you are just one guy (not a company) may be not. But tread carefully. There may be a restricted licensing way you could show your work if you want to, but I am not an expert there.

Also worth noting that if you are an individual (ie not deep pockets) they’ll bring suit for an injunction. An injunction just demands you stop doing something; won’t be for money. So you’ll just lose time/effort, not $$$.

The issue is less with the platform they're using and more with where they're sourcing the data from. They're asking if there are any issues with taking people's uploaded builds and using them to train a generative system.

You are probably fine, but note that a) people will likely be very angry with you, whether or not the licensing permits it and b) this is a non-trivial problem and even more non-trivial to train.
