Jessica Whitten will have sessions with you post-trip for psilocybin but you would have to get a hold of it yourself. She also offers ketamine-assisted psychotherapy which can be prescribed

It’s not legit here yet. Anyone offering right now is a quack

miswoehyrmsa t1_jaoaxw0 wrote

It’s not currently legal in this state, so a provider offering it would risk losing their license. However, ketamine assisted therapy is legal, and could possibly offer a similar introduction to the experience in a safe context. In Portland I think there are at least two places that work with ketamine, Bishop Health and Riverbird Clinic, and you could contact them to learn more about the process.

Amsterdam is the only place outside of clinical trials that are pretty full where you can get psilocybin assisted therapy. Mdma assisted therapy is closer to being legal in the us than psilocybin, but still in the clinical trial stage(and honestly looking like a miracle drug). Ketamine assisted therapy is legal here, but I will say, the only clients I’ve seen it make a difference for are the ones with severe depression and chronic SI. It seems to take away the SI, but still leave folks with moderate to severe depression. Only my personal experience, I’m sure others know of folks who’ve done it and made miraculous recoveries. The cost of enough sessions to make a difference is close enough to where I’d personally save for Amsterdam and give psilocybin assisted a shot instead based on the research for both. The MDMA assisted therapy is really looking like the best option of the three when legal, it seems to help everything under the sun.

I tried this a couple of years ago. It was hard, especially since spore syringes and spore prints (the only legal way of acquiring mushroom DNA) tend to also be sources of contamination. If you are super depressed, starting a new hobby like this, which requires time, resources, and the ability to stick to a schedule is really difficult. After a few failures due to contamination I gave up. I have had one mushroom experience that did more to help me deal with trauma and CPTSD than any of the hours (and $$$) spent with mental health professionals and on many many anti-depressants. I'd really love to continue that work legally. It sucks that legislators voted against bills to legalize therapeutic psilocybin. While they take their sweet ass time getting comfortable with the idea of a controlled-substance as scientifically proven medicine, people continue to suffer and seek illegal ways to self-medicate, which is bullshit. Sorry about the rant.

I’m not sure if sterilization has gotten better with spore syringes, but with ~5 mins a day of effort, I’ve gotten more than I can reasonably consume. I do agree though, not sure how these harmless little fungi can be prohibited. It’s a literal plant, with very real mental health benefits.

TranscendentPretzel t1_janvo3w wrote

I used a pressure canner and made agar dishes and sterilized my substrate. The agar dishes that I didn't inoculate stayed contam free, so I'm pretty certain it was the syringes. But I'm sure it depends on who prepares them. All the cleaning and sterilizing I did before actually doing the 5 minutes/day of work was what was overwhelming for me. To still get contam after that was just too demoralizing. I might try again sometime with commercially-prepared substrate/spawn.

If someone I love is on the brink of suicide I want to know that they are getting professional, evidence based help.

Magic mushrooms are an emerging field with little evidence base. So is cannabis. It’s too soon to be confident that you can Street drug your way out of a serious bout of depression.

Littlemuffn t1_japw3wb wrote

I’m 30 years old and can tell you this is not a recently emerging field by a long shot and I encourage you to do some reading into it. I got my degree in psychology, which required a heavy amount of research. There were SO MANY scholarly articles that were published which have shown that psilocybin has had overwhelmingly positive outcomes on those with depression alone. It has also shown to be effective with those who have anxiety disorder as well.

Yourbubblestink t1_jar94fq wrote

I’m twice your age and I know that it’s been around forever and a curiosity to people, especially those who are inclined to do recreational drugs. There’s always been this hope that we can find magic in the things that make us feel good, like on our days off. There’s still needs to be a lot of research. Keep in mind that the United States went through a period of time where we felt like cocaine was medicinal.

It’s showing very good promise in trials. I would never prevent someone with a potentially terminal illness (treatment-resistant depression) from using a drug that has shown promise in trials but is not yet fully approved.

Whoop....there it is. Put down that boomer mentality of "all drugs bad" and understand that medicine has many forms. Mental as well as physical well-being can be improved through new means.

Littlemuffn t1_jatty0r wrote

Yea, I wasn’t even bringing my age into my comment as a way to say ‘I have been here longer than you and therefore know more than you’ but to give some context that I’ve undergone traditional treatment my entire life with many different providers and have tried so many medications since I was a child, that I’ve lost count.

Shadow3114 t1_jaojkg8 wrote

I’ve had enough first hand experiences that prove to me it helps. Multiple people have came to me for micro doses and have sworn up and down that it made them feel better, which is what I do it for. If you don’t like/trust it, good for you. I do, and that’s it. Nobody is forcing you to try it. Calling it a “club drug” and other buzzwords adds nothing to the discussion. Just because It’s not legal and mainstream now doesn’t mean it can’t help people.

Yourbubblestink t1_jaom0i3 wrote

Fair enough, to each his own.

One note tho - Implying that it is medicine without evidence is worse than calling it a club drug. It’s been a club drug a whole hell of a lot longer than it’s been an antidepressant (if it turns out to be)

1

[deleted] OP t1_jaq2eu1 wrote

You're misinformed that psilocybin originated as a "club drug."

It was actually patented for use in psychotherapy when it was isolated by the Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann in 1959. Hofmann's employer Sandoz marketed and sold pure psilocybin to physicians and clinicians worldwide for use in treating depressed patients.

Peer-reviewed studies have thus far found it to be well tolerated in patients with treatment-resistant depression (few adverse effects), and the LD50 is so high that it would be extremely difficult to overdose unintentionally-- actually impossible if using mushrooms and not lab-synthesized psilocybin. Feel free to read the available studies from whichever scholarly sources you prefer (I recommend NCBI, google scholar is also a useful tool).

Yourbubblestink t1_jar908o wrote

It’s not legal yet, and there’s no one in the State licensed to deliver it. It’s currently in widespread use, however, in clubs, and at raves.

You're clearly not familiar with the massive amount of research supporting their use in a variety of mental health conditions. It's pretty much the consensus in mainstream psychiatry nowadays that psychedelics are the 3rd wave of psych meds.

No lol. I’m still back at my original point which is that has not yet been recognized by the government as a non experiment intervention. Until that occurs there are not options for getting the treatment yet - there are no prescribers out there able to use it. It’s still not viewed as medicine. I know it works and it will be a great tool for some in The future

clinicaltrials.gov if you want actual, legal, professional assistance with your session. It's not legal here yet. There was a bill last year that was voted down--rightly, in my opinion--it contained far more language about restricting access than it did about standards of care. Would've allowed anyone with the $ to get a permit with no quality control over the therapeutic support.

Hello local psilocybin-seeking community,

If you could use support in preparing or integrating an individual psilocybin journey in Maine, please email me at maine.psilocybin.guide@gmail.com or call (207) 370-9355.

I’ve experienced many deep psychedelic journeys (including a few dozen psilocybin), trained as a guide, and integration coach, advocated for policy reform at the state/fed, and prepared to guide trips when ‘things’ change. I attribute self-medicating micro-dosing and deep Psilocybin journeys to my healing from PTSD and depression as a combat veteran. I’ve found peace, happiness, & joy from this medicine - and zen weekly hope you find the same.

I’m an experienced coach and not a licensed psychologist; I don’t provide medical advice. I would be honored to support anyone’s pre/post-journey work. Feel free to reach out via phone to set up an in-person meeting or video call via zoom.

This post I prefer to remain anonymous for the privacy of my family; after we meet, you’ll see my face and learn my name. Blessings along your healing journey!

Just a heads up, a release is not going to protect you from litigation in this instance. Prosecution is unlikely as I don’t know what you’d be charged with.

It worked perfectly for me. And theres no need to continue it all the time like a habit. A few months of mico dosing and you will probably be ok. But if not this wont harm you, unless you get crazy and eat a big bunch of them. Then you better hold on because the inner “demons” that your holding on to, and why your depressed or anxious in the first place. Are going to come forth. But mico dosing worked for me. Changed my life really. Made me feel “normal”.
