In almost every Town in Northern Maine.

Some are even a hazard to Customers. Think of the junked-up isles of carts because they understaff stocking & cashier.

At least the ones I've been in, cashier and stocker are the same (1) person. They always have a bell to ring when you're ready to check out, and I always feel shitty about ringing it because I know I'm putting them further behind.

The Dollar General "Customer Experience"

One person is the business model for their profits.

$1 Million is NOT Enough ... It MUST be $1 Billion ... Millions is so out of fashion.

F Consumers F Workers ... Bow to Wall Street Demands

I was a manager, paid $9 an hour, alone 5:30am-2pm to stock, clean, man the register, check in vendors, etc. ridiculous

Sad part is I thought that was halfway decent pay. This was like 2015-2016

Things have been made so out of whack in Wages & Compensation since the 1980's that now it's all fucked.

Compare Executives Wage & Compensation in 1950's and 2010's

Compare Worker Wage & Compensation in 1950's and 2010's

They've ruined capitalism with their YOLO greed.

It's not just northern Maine. There's one every other town between Lewiston Auburn and Augusta.

One in Greene, one on Monmouth, one in Manchester.

The midcoast town I grew up in, that had never had a chain business of any kind, got a Dollar General a few years ago. Felt like another nail in the coffin of my childhood.

As Morrill Worcester would say, OSHA fines are just the cost of doing business.

I scowl every time I see one of these. We'd be better off with pawn shops and strip joints.

GhostOfLords t1_je22na0 wrote

It absolutely is a convenience store. It sells food and products, many cases cheaper than my local hannafords and not as far. It’s no different than a Walgreens minus the pharmacy.

jteedubs t1_je259l1 wrote

Look at the unit price, it’s very rarely cheaper than Hannafords bub.

That’s a fair point, but sometimes I don’t mind but something in the smaller quantity that DG offers.

People downvoting me have no reason To hate DG other than groupthink.

Dollar General is bad for selling low quality products and exploiting their workers for profit. Is it so bad to want things to be less than their most shitty version?

GhostOfLords t1_je489iw wrote

You forgot to call them racist or classist or fascist or something.

Their store brand products are on par with any other store brand.

Even if their products are equivalent, if they treat their employees worse, I'll avoid them.

ETA I'm in Minnesota, but this post popped up on my feed so I figured I'd share his story with this trash company.

I'm not surprised, my fiance worked at one for a few months. Severely understaffed and aisles were constantly cluttered with U-Boats full of stuff. They had him scheduled closing every single day until he put his foot down and told them tht he couldn't work 7 days a week. He quit back in September and it's never open anymore. They can't keep any staff long enough to run a shift!
