Just wondering where and if I could still find any cheaper-priced lobster at this time. Did not have any this past summer and dying to get some on an upcoming trip to Acadia this weekend. Just checked Market Basket and Hannaford. They are $7.99 for sub-1.25lb chicken soft shell which I still consider a little pricey. Thx

There’s honestly no secret place for cheap lobster unless you have family or friends in the industry. You’re going to find similar prices for the most part, maybe +/- $1lb fluctuations depending on how touristy places are. Drive around some coastal towns and you’ll happen upon some small businesses selling fresh catch.

You'll quickly kill any money saved by buying at the dock with the expense of driving around. Of course there's value in the experience of meeting locals and dealing first hand with the lobstermen/ coops, plus it's a beautiful time to drive the peninsulas, so take your pick.

Th the point that $7.99/lb seems expensive, it's not just the lobster. Not even 10 years ago I can remember retail prices starting at $3.25/ lb, cheaper even than steamers! But it's 10 years later, the world has changed and nothing remains the same. Just enjoy it while you're here and don't sweat the price, I guarantee it's a lot more expensive virtually everywhere else in the country.

Find a wharf in the area you’ll be in and buy directly from them. They’ll only charge $1 more per pound than what they pay the fishermen to buy their catch.

I am willing to go to any wharf along the coast. Could you give me a specific pointer?

I don’t know any near MDI. Jonesport-Beals Co-Op is a good one but it’s a drive up the coast from MDI

Interesting. Is it still in season? Are they still catching?

Know any other wharf south? I assume MDI means mount desert island? Sorry, not local.

Yeah MDI is Mount Desert Island. I honestly don’t know. All the people/places I know are at least an hour drive up the coast from MDI. The closest place I know is Chipmans Wharf in Milbridge.

On Schoodic there’s Winter Harbor Co-op, Corea Co-op, DC Air in WH. Dorr Lobster in Ellsworth but on FB they’re $7.99/lb also.

7.99 might be what you consider pricey, but it's not.

I saw an 18ounce box of Cheerios for $7.99 the other day

Any suggestions near Harpswell? More looking to dine in as we are travelling to the area. Last time (2019) we went to Morse Lobster on Bailey Island but now we see its permanently closed which is sad.
