You mean from the buffet tables? You grab a container (usually on the side of the buffet), fill it up and take to the register. It’s priced by weight.

Got it! Thanks.

If you do self checkout, put the box on the scale, touch item lookup and I believe it's labeled "hot bar" or something similar

Crazyancientdoc OP t1_iuadh2a wrote

Thanks, I was wandering what about self check out😄. Thank you.

Mountainman1980 t1_iuauxut wrote

It's specifically labeled "small hot bar" after you push "deli." Don't forget plastic utensils.

12

Yourbubblestink t1_iuan1s3 wrote

Be careful it’s heavier than you expect

14

Mountainman1980 t1_iuav4ip wrote

I've learned this the hard way so many times. It used to be $8.99 (or $7.99 sale) per pound last winter. Now it's something like $10.99 per pound.

Yourbubblestink t1_iub2rs6 wrote

Yes!! You can still make a pretty nice lunch for yourself for a fair price though, especially at salad bar.

2

speeb t1_iuadcmi wrote

And if you're a self checkout, there options when you look up am item for hot bar and salad bar.

DaNostrich t1_iuay6bi wrote

And definitely don’t select a ¢99 / lb vegetable instead

That and Roma tomatoes (4087) are the only two PLUs I remember from my two year stint on a Hannies register. Romas are a delicious breaktime snack, and bananas are what you accidentally ring up when life is hitting someone hard.

DaNostrich t1_iuaybtt wrote

I’ll have to look it up next time

Vxscop t1_iub3ut0 wrote

It’s the universal code for bananas by weight

8

speeb t1_iubgr7u wrote

I do not condone using it for anything other than bananas. But there was a very funny thread about it somewhere recently.

DaNostrich t1_iubhdq0 wrote

Same here definitely wouldn’t take advantage of self checkout

Make sure you show up at least a few hours before close because they shut it down.

Just a tip for the future, you can ask the employees nearby for help. I'm sure they'd be happy if it gets them away from work haha

[Not meant to be condescending, genuinely trying to help. I know new places can be nerve-wracking :)]

13

Crazyancientdoc OP t1_iubqa9y wrote

Thank you for ur help man! Yes I can definitely ask an employee but this post made me, u and a lots of others appreciate the community. Now that’s something u can’t get just by asking an employee😄. Anyways thanks so much for the tip.

Dude, either way, good choice. Hannaford hot bar is my lunch a couple times a month. I love the general Tsos chicken though I miss the southwest egg rolls!

2

bigtiddytoad t1_iucx6ze wrote

The soup, salad and wing bar are weighed at the register where you pay. There's a code you or the cashier can enter and it's by the pound. There's signage by the salad and wing bar for price by pound (no scale though).

2

modernbetty t1_iucy18s wrote

Make sure to get in there on that general tso’s chicken. You’re welcome.

Ikr, it’s rare to see various food bars at grocery stores. It’s great though having them. I watched many times but I was like where to pay ? Do I need to pay before I take? 😁 anyway thanks.

Dollar General's store brand, LOL! It's actually quite good. They have good prices on their name brand prices, too, though a more limited selection of course.

Their mozzarella sticks are great. A lot of stuff from their hot bar is great.

Squidworth89 t1_iuae7g4 wrote

Hannafords “fresh” shrimp is the same as the bagged frozen shrimp in the freezer nearby.

I used to go a lot before Covid. But it seems their prices are way up. Went in for a pre-packed pasta salad and the container was double what it used to be. Can get take out for that.

−6

Crazyancientdoc OP t1_iuagejt wrote

Sry man, vegetarian guy here so I only care for fresh salad😄, But I know prices are through the roof, specially at Hannafords but it’s always better to pay high cost healthy groceries than prescribed meds.

4

DidDunMegasploded t1_iuajppr wrote

They don't have a salad bar AFAIK, and IDK if they have vegetarian stuff, but Market Basket has great food in general. If you're looking for vegetarian food, you might want to ask them, if there's a location near you.

Plus, it's easy on the wallet. I buy a pizza that feeds 4 for less than $10, but since I'm just one person, I eat a couple slices, wrap it up, and boom, meals for the next couple days. Market Basket in general is cheaper; the only downfall is that there are only three locations in the entire state.

3

Crazyancientdoc OP t1_iuaksjy wrote

Thanks for suggestion, seems like Scarborough dosent have one. I’ll try it sometimes though. Thanks.

3

DidDunMegasploded t1_iuava2h wrote

Closest one near Scarborough would be Biddeford, which isn't terribly far--takes about a half-hour to 45 minutes to get there and back for us.

And you're welcome! Hopefully you find something you like there.
