Let’s help each other out. What is the town (or hospital) you work for and what is the starting wage? I work at Northern Maine Medical Center where base is $28.88 ($3.45 shift diff for nights) and curious what other parts of the state look like as we’re looking to move back south next year.

I was offered 35 in Bar Harbor (I’ve been a nurse for 6 years) and 33 at Waldo County in Belfast. Glad to post differentials if it’s helpful.

I work for MaineHealth (not at MMC) and I make $37.50 with 6 years experience. Nursing pay isn't great in Maine, but it's still better than most of the South. My base pay here is about the same as I was making in VT, but MaineHealth doesn't have a per diem differential, which used to be $10/hr for me ☹️. And I definitely miss being in a union.

Interesting thread.

Left $26/hr as an RN at MidCoast last year to travel. Now making $66/hr plus $4,300/month in untaxed stipends.

Go get a travel contract.

Is your current contract in Maine/do you mind saying where?

Currently in NC, but there are options all over. If you want to stay closer to home, a quick search just now found an open position in Derry, NH for $13k/month.

Everyone who has been traveling for a while knows the dynamic between pay, bill rates, stipends, etc. Yes, the agency is keeping 25-45% of what the hospital is paying them. Yes, I’m making more than 3x what I was making as staff. That’s called a win-win.

This spreadsheet (it’s not mine) may be useful to the discussion. It’s a rolling 12 month salary tracker for Maine nursing pay based on city and unit.

Wow eye opening thread. Not a nurse but I think you folks deserve a big raise! All that school & the life or death situations you face plus being on the front lines of sickness putting yourself at risk. You all deserve $50 an hour or more starting. Thank you for all you do.

I work outpatient at a large private practice based out of Portland. I have been there 6 years and have been a nurse about 14 years. I make $37 an hour. I am not sure what they start nurses at and think it varies by experience, but guess it would be in the high $20's anyway.
