First year having a wood stove. Does anyone have any recommendations about where to get seasoned firewood at a reasonable price? In New Gloucester and would be great if they deliver.

If you have the room do yourself a favor and buy ahead. I like to season my wood 2 years. Burns so much better. If you have an airtight stove it is a must, in my opinion.

I think you'll be lucky to find any wood that's even partially seasoned at this point.

I live near Bucksport, prices for a cord of seasoned wood, IF you can find it, are around $500, which seems crazy, but those folks are going to charge what the market will bear.

Good luck...try craigslist for your area.

You wanna look into getting kiln dried wood since it’s pretty late in the season to buy properly seasoned wood. Also, depends on what a “reasonable price” is to you. We paid 10% more per cord this year vs last.

First things first, get a cheap moisture meter and be ready when they show up to split a piece and check the moisture in the middle. The firewood business is greasy af.

This is an amazing suggestion. What moisture percent would be acceptable? Thanks!

<20% is the gold standard, but depending on the species you can easily burn up to 25%. Gotta keep a lot of airflow going with that though.

Years years years ago they delivered here after the sun went down. Guess what it was green. Do things differently nowadays.

The "too late to buy" posts seem unhelpful. You are already aware of the lateness. My suggestion is to drive down towards Pownal and then come back up towards Gray. You might find a roadside sign where someone is selling.

$500 for a cord seems absurd. Just plain greed.

As someone else said, look for kiln dried to burn this year. Jac's Firewood in Turner offers kiln dried. Check their website for details. I've bought seasoned from them in the past and they're good people.

Next year, order 'seasoned' wood in the spring. It'll be ready by winter. Might be a little sizzly but it'll heat.

We have to order in the spring if we want seasoned wood, last year we were too late and ended up getting green wood and letting it dry out in our barn over the winter. Fortunately we had enough seasoned wood to get us through.

If you aren't able to find a supply of seasoned wood for this winter, maybe look into envi blocks or something similar? No experience myself with them but I have a friend who swears by them (although they don't use their wood stove as a main heat source like we do, honestly I have no idea how the cost compares). A quick Google search suggests you can get them from a place in Lisbon Falls called Maine Pellet Sales.

I’m shocked no one has posted this yet. The state of Maine has a list of firewood venders here. I just ordered 5 cords of seasoned wood for 350 split and delivered last week from someone on that list. It’s not too late, in fact some of these places will deliver until the end of the year.

Thank you! Just contacted someone off the list you linked. Thanks for actually being helpful instead of berating me for not getting green wood delivered ahead of time to a property I didn’t even own yet

We typically see firewood for sale around my area, but haven’t seen any. The place on 237 heading to Windham is gone and the place on 202 out past Limington rapids is gone. The man we used to buy from in Windham passed a few years back. Try finding bricks, they burn fairly well.
