Maine became a state in 1820, but we started as a separate colony in the early 1600s and always existed as our own province even while we were part of Massachusetts.

It was the District of Maine, sometimes called just “the District.” After the separation Massachusetts still owned a great deal of Maine land.

Never knew the history of new brunswick being part of nova scotia. Some of the lakes and coastline in this are really not that great. It's amazing how much better they get between then and 100 years after

odd that they called New Brunswick "Nova Scotia" in this map if it is from 1795. New Brunswick split from Nova Scotia in 1784, due to the mass amount of refugees from the American revolution coming across the border.
