Why not the coast? I drive to Popham beach yesterday and saw half a dozen beautiful deer on the way. Heard lots of gunshots too so people are definitely hunting there.

First couple days of the season always have lots of folks shooting, as for how many deer that equals, well... That and I figured property on the coast costs to much to rate the amount of deer you going to have access to. Southern and central Maine (think York and North) is where the most deer get tagged. Western and Northern Maine still have some cheap 20 acre wood lots you can buy up from time to time.
