Pretty much anywhere but the coast. Central Maine has a ton of deer, some of them get pretty big. Northern Maine has all the deer and fewer hunters competing. Western Maine has great deer, but the terrain is much harder sometimes, but that also cuts down on other hunters in the area. You could probably almost go with whatever is cheap and look around for sign on and around it before you buy it and not go wrong.

Carrabassette valley and Rangely. Thats where a lot of generational family camps (deer camps) are. Be warned, there is less than nothing out there. Like 4 bars within a hour of each other (excluding pricy sugarloaf attractions). And it not uncommon to have no running water. Oquassic has a dedicated spring that people go to and keep nice for this reason. Desolation and Indian land to avoid while your hunting. Crazy woods though, 200lbs deer every year at the weigh station in Eustis

I would have said Jay/Livermore/Turner, but PFAS is fucked.

Why not the coast? I drive to Popham beach yesterday and saw half a dozen beautiful deer on the way. Heard lots of gunshots too so people are definitely hunting there.

First couple days of the season always have lots of folks shooting, as for how many deer that equals, well... That and I figured property on the coast costs to much to rate the amount of deer you going to have access to. Southern and central Maine (think York and North) is where the most deer get tagged. Western and Northern Maine still have some cheap 20 acre wood lots you can buy up from time to time.

I'm just outside of Bucksport...tons of deer here. Guy bagged a 10pt up in the blueberry fields just off Rt 1 in East Orland on Sat. Herd came through my place at 3am the other day...grabbed what was left of my carrots on the way by.

They are literally everywhere. BUT...the further east and north you go, the cheaper acreage will be, generally.

I have trail cam footage of herds of 40 plus crossing Lemon stream on several occasions. So that would be the woods Northeast of Farmington. Curious though, why a group of hunters from Maine would need to know where the deer are.

We’re all kinda dispersed around the state and have done the vast majority of our hunting in Washington County. Hoping that whatever property we go in on will become something that our kids and grandkids will use and so on. Many of the woods we used to hunt have been bought up by people from away and posted over the last couple of years so we’ve decided that we should all go in on something together. My job is to do the research, so here I am asking all you nice folks for your helpful input.
