The 1783 treaty of Paris ending the American Revolution was too vague as to the landmarks for the border between what would become Maine and Canada. The Treaty of Ghent ending the War of 1812 as it related to the natural boundaries. After Maine became a state in 1820, the timber harvest was a major source of income for the state and the Aroostook war/Pork and Beans war was a conflict over illegal logging in the area in green. The Battle of Caribou started off as a shouting match between the Mainers and the Canadians and the woke up a black bear, one side shot it and the other side accused them of firing at them so both sides started shooting at each other but missed. The Webster-Ashburton treaty settled the boundary dispute and…you all didn’t have to watch the video and just benefited from the history paper I submitted yesterday.

The northern Maine border could only be stolen after the genocides of the natives and Acadians.
