That's a county.

They've been sighted in Standish (Cumberland) and Buxton (York) quite a bit lately.

The only bear I've been near in Maine was in my yard, too. All the hikes I've been on, all the time I've spent in the forest, and ended up like 10 feet away from a bear in my garden.

I've never seen a bear on the trail and have only seen a moose once (near Moxie Falls). It's still unnerving!

Hopefully it's because our trails are kept pretty clean. Near the house however, lots of lovely smells from inside and around it.

Our bear showed up to eat all of our fallen apples. Sounded like a huge dog crunching them up for hours. Hundreds of apples gone overnight.

That is crazy! I wonder if they get drunk off the fermented ones like birds and squirrels.

What's yours for

My trail cam caught a bobcat entering my backyard this week. I’ve sworn up and down for months that I saw one run across the road on my way to work one morning. Husband, brother, and parents didn’t believe me. Now I have the terrifying proof lol

I was delivering mail in rural Waldo County, about 5 years ago and saw, what I thought was a big black dog, in a field...then it started to run and bears have a distinctive run...it was a big bear and I had just left a customers yard. The customer and her young granddaughter were in the garden. I turned around to go back and warn her, because it was headed her way... During my 32 years career as a rural carrier, I saw all kinds of wild critters...it was always fun to see wild animals.

I've lived here all my life and in my 41 years I've only seen maybe 3-4 bears out and about.

They are hard to spot!

We've had two bear attacks over here in Vermont in the past few months, and I saw three myself over the summer. Was there a bear baby boom or something?

Really?

I’ve never been in Maine and not seen a bear

You'd be surprised these days! There's been a lot of ecological competition from twinks.
