Anyone know where I could get my kitchen knives sharpened in the Augusta area. I've had it done in Freeport before when I was in the area but looking somewhere closer to home.

DO NOT BUY A COUNTERTOP ELECTRIC KNIFE SHARPENER. those things will grind down the edge of your knife to a jagged mess. Find a professional who can do it correctly, and can sharpen to the correct angle. Some of my knives have a 22 degree edge, and some have a 17 degree edge. An electric sharpener would grind both to the same angle, requiring a lot of metal to be ground away in order to regrind the edge.

Longfellow's has some weekend events, and has had someone doing it before. Might be worth a call maybe they have the name or an upcoming event?

Super easy to learn to do yourself. Go to goodwill and grab a handful of garbage knives, learn how to sharpen with a stone with the help of some you tube instruction. Then buy a ken onion sharpener because using a stone takes way to fucking long to do a kitchens worth of knives. Then keep this skill to yourself or everyone you know will want you to sharpen their shit...

Many/most hardware stores have knife sharpening. All the Ace Hardware stores in my area offer it. There is even a buy one get one happening this weekend. You might also consider buying an electric kitchen countertop sharpener. They come with guides built in so it’s hard to mess it up.

I have a nice I’ve been using for years. On the other hand I grew up sharpening by hand so I know something. Maybe you’re right.

Would love to know if you find a good one. I have some I'd like to get a new edge put on. I thought about that mail order Knife Aid thing for my "ok" knives, but haven't bit the bullet yet.

Where in Freeport did you go? Was it an easy sharpen-while-you-wait thing or did you have to go back and pick them up another day?

I had to go back another day. It was Casco Bay Cutlery & Kitchenware. Very cheap I think it was 20-25 bucks for 5 knives.
