Also all Renys are different - Ellsworth Renys will have different stock than Portland Renys.

A sharp knife is a good knife. Make sure you sharpen your knife regularly and it’ll be good to you, no matter how much it costs.
xach t1_iws37ua wrote
A good knife needs less frequent sharpening though.

This is true.

Renys is awesome.

Not true. They used to be middling. Legit no better then dollar general/ family dollar now. Just have a better name because of the old man. The sons have made money but at the cost of selling cheap crap. But they don't care cause they are making money.
Not to mention the real estate that they outright own is always run down and unkempt. The building are OSHA nightmares. But cash is king.

Made by Victorinox, nonslip handles, take an edge easily, and stamped steel so way cheaper than forged blades. Miles above anything at Walmart.
I like poking around Reny's but odds of finding a knife there that I'd want to use as a daily driver are very slim. KP has excellent customer service and will hook you up if you have questions.
For the love of god, at least don't buy Farberware.

These knives are SO sharp. So so sharp.
linuxdragons t1_iwspvs1 wrote
Ooh, boy. I didn't check their knives, but I did check their pans the other day, and they were abysmal. I would bet all their knives are cheap partial tang stamped steel knives.
I would take a heavily used, full tang, German steel knife over those any day of the week and just sharpen in.
schilling207 t1_iwuvuwu wrote
They MIGHT have Dexter Russell or Victoronix knives. If you see them, these are probably the best you’ll find at Renys. Both are used as “house knives” in a lot of commercial kitchens.
Minkewhale55 t1_iwwfpki wrote
I just bought a Dexter knife with an offset handle. These are used commercially so I know that stay sharp for quite a while

Walmart probably has better knives. That place reminds me of mardens.

Yeah but Mardens isn't a Maine Adventuah.

You are 100% correct. Renys is terrible. Walmart is terrible. They are all terrible. Just sell shit.
RelationshipBig2798 t1_iwuvxf8 wrote
Yeah I still use ebay quite a bit. Rock bottom prices.
RelationshipBig2798 t1_iws4re1 wrote
Really showing your true colors downvoting. Better brands, better warranty, better products = walmart. I don't even like walmart the place is a zoo. Renys is a joke. With the exception of factory defect clothing the deals at that place are few and far. Legit everything that store sells can be purchased online for less.
iammabdaddy t1_iws5zu9 wrote
I dont know much about Renys. Do many feel the way this person does?
Longjumping_West_907 t1_iws9h3f wrote
No. Walmart has junk. Renys is a crap shoot. Buyer beware but they have good deals on quality stuff. You never know what they will have, inventory changes all the time. Most stuff is better than what Walmart or Mardens has on the shelf.
RelationshipBig2798 t1_iwsbll9 wrote
Every store has junk everywhere period. Very little is made in the USA. Name brand clothes off brand clothes all same crap. The truth hurts some people I guess.
mornin_veggies t1_iwsbxmr wrote
I love renys and think there are good deals there- but not camping gear or cleaning supplies. Those are less expensive elsewhere. I go to renys for less expensive sheets/bedding, bobs red mill and other random food finds, and shampoo
Longjumping_West_907 t1_iws9qag wrote
Nobody can answer this question because unless they are at Renys right now nobody knows what knives they have in stock. And whatever they do have might be gone tomorrow.
