Has anyone here had any experience with Maine Media? I have heard great things about their programs and I’m currently considering enrolling in their 4 week filmmaking program come spring of 2023.

If anyone has any experience with this program or just Maine Media in general I would HIGHLY appreciate any insight.

Thank you!!!

They get some great instructors to teach their workshops. I'd say it's worth it if it's something you really want to do!

I’ve worked with a number of new and experienced artists who have attended over the years. It’s a great opportunity. The contacts alone are worth it.

Edit: whoever downvoted doesn’t understand how bad and exploitive MMW is. I am not even exaggerating. And if MMW is mad, DM me. Let’s talk!

I did yes, they exploit interns. And no this isn’t just an y paid internship. Yes those can be very useful if you’re in the right industry but this place isn’t it. They aren’t connected with film industry giants, contacts or anything useful.

I interned there four years ago and they had me handle hazardous waste, sweep floors and do other interns jobs. This was 6 weeks into the position. So I quit! And they then harassed me on the phone! They never thanked me for my hard labor and just said goodbye. They then build a pavilion later that summer yet can’t afford to at least give interns a stipend or a clean working environment? They also over worked the higher up interns.

The students can be very snobby and so are the instructors especially the administrators who own the place.

When I say I recommend against, I mean this from my very unfortunate experience.

I will be glad to share with you photos in a DM too of my experience

I mean, I guess you have to make the most of the opportunities that are available in MidCoast Maine. It's such a diverse industry, I guess covering all of it would be tough. Perhaps film-wise its a bit more limited, although the relationship with Points North and CIFF is prob good for doc film, it might not carry the same shine for other aspirations in the film industry at large and outside that circle.

But in regards to photo, they seem to attract a lot of talent from afar for lectures, and they're not without notable local talent that has knowledge to extend. I've known Paul and Joyce and Cig for years, and while they may not always have additional intern opportunities all the time, they're still permeable to dialogue. A lot of students that I've known over the years have landed coveted jobs in diverse photo fields by investing themselves and looking for unique opportunities along the way. I could list a bunch, but I guess I'm more interested in what you'd be looking for.
