Spent a bit of time perusing this URL:

https://www.centralmaine.com/2022/11/06/statewide-and-town-by-town-maine-results-for-election-2022/

and the 1st thing to stand out (specially in #container-state-house) was how in red districts dem voters were outvoted 3-to-1 in most races. The take-away being red Maine is really red.

Next, I tried searching for election results that included candidates endorsed by hard right conservative PACs. From the likes of "Concerned Maine Families"/Maine First PAC (Larry Lockman) to the more extreme "Maine Patriots", and came up with this list:

Meldon Carmichael, running for Lockman’s seat in Bradley

Molly Luce is running to represent District 95

State Rep. Chris Johansen running for re-election in Monticello

Mark Andre running in Waterville

Randall Greenwood running in Monmouth

Toni Bashinsky running in Topsham

Stephanie Hawke running in Boothbay

But searching on them on that link turned up 404. So maybe my info was from 2020 not 2022. I could keep googling but feeling lazy. Any crazies get elected in your neck of the woods?

TIA!

Whatever happened to the two batshit crazy ladies who were magats? The blond who had her neighbors trees all cut down and the brunette who led all the rallys during COVID?

Sorry to describe them as such. Not trying to be sexist I just can't think of any defining features except they are crazy and their hair color.

Laurel Libby and Heidi Sampson are the two.

Edit: apparently they both won? FML

Libby was running unopposed. Or at least there wasn’t anyone else on the ballot. I was definitely disappointed.

That seems like a bad idea. Thank you for at least enlightening me as to the why!

Looking at the URL in my OP and seeing just how red many of our Districts are (like 2-to-1) I suppose I shouldn't be surprised if MAGA got a toehold. But Auburn ? and yea - unopposed

Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the info!

It’s a real shame, because this would have been a great year to knock her out. Libby’s only got the one term under her belt and had plenty of crazy to use against her. Real missed opportunity.

Alfred, Lyman, Waterboro

At least the margin was only 10% and not a blowout. Will check out Joseph Wagner (D) and their positions to see if its just voting party line more than MAGA 'mandate'

Peace Out!

I guess names would be a good place to start :)

Your posting this might test if their reputation precedes them! Maines' own "Batshit Crazy" Ladies, indeed.

Yeah, Hawke lost to Holly Stover in Boothbay/Edgecomb a couple of years back. Stover won reelection this week by over 18 points against her GOP opponent.

Not my district, but I was hoping Tim Throckmorton would give Carmichael ( Lockman's old seat ) a beatdown, but it was not to be.

Peter Lawrence, running for town council in Fairfield, was MAGA I believe. There were two seats available among three candidates, and he was one of the two winners.

Thanks for the feedback! But I read nothing about him online to suggest that. Do you have a link?

Nothing official, just based on the things he's shared in the local community gossip group on Facebook.

Thanks for the follow-up! I lived in Waterville may21 thru aug21 and wife worked at Johnny's Seeds. We liked the area, safe enough, friendly, a bit rusty and boring... That said, that area, incl Winslow/Fairfield, seemed to be a magnet for MAGA-like grievance.

Lawrence doesn't appear to be too extreme; here's hoping :)
