That parking garage is one of the fanciest things in downtown Biddo now.

Maybe not for long once the druggies figure out that's a good place to hand out their stash, but it's nice and slick and I like it.

Druggies? I’m not sure what that even means. I’ve parked in this garage for the past year. I’ve never seen an empty beer can, let alone druggies. Move along with your old school biddo nonsense.

You don't know what druggies are? You being serious?

I'm 24. Biddo is not a safe city. Clarification: by US standards it's one of the safest cities in the nation. By Maine standards, not even close. It's not "old school Biddo nonsense". I've seen enough stuff on the streets of Biddo and questioned the legitimacy of enough Facebook posts to know that no one could pay me enough money to walk around there at night, me being a woman be damned. Even in that parking garage, I'd be wary.

I'm gonna hold out hope for you and express my hopes that you gave enough common sense to, at the very least, lock your car door and house/apartment doors. That goes for every city, not just Biddo.

Portland outclasses it, though, easily. The downtown area in particular. Whoof boy...

Maybe you would be happier in another state. I hear that Massachusetts has room for new asshats to move down there. I'll even help you pack.

Haha...nice try, but it'll take a lot more than a couple of bad apples to make me leave this state.

For your ad hominem, though, because you seem to be crazy offended by me insulting your hometown and go full fallacy when you're not even the person I'm conversing with...you can leave at any time. Just make sure the door doesn't hit you in the ass on the way out.

Nvm. I'm finished debating with someone young enough to be my kid. Best of luck in life. Lol.

Wow, what a twist. Me, a millennial, having boomer ideologies, while you, a boomer, have millennial and Gen Z ideologies.

Color me surprised. No sarcasm here.

You could learn a lot from the younger generation, though. I'm one of its byproducts that doesn't do stupid shit for views and actually has common sense!

But by all means, have fun. Don't become a victim of crime. Stay safe. Practice common sense.

EDIT: Lol, blocked. You lost this argument, bud. Boomer you may be, but you know I'm right and what I say holds at least one shred of truth. Git gud.

EDIT 2: Blocked again. Lmfao.

Honestly guys, go against the r/Maine hivemind and practice common sense. It won't hurt you in any sort of way, trust me. Typical Reddit...respond to a person stating they disagree and then dip out and block said person. C'mon now.

You seem to be doing a lot of projecting. You should venture out into the world around you so that you can experience for yourself how safe you really are right now.

I live in Biddeford and I haven’t experienced any of that.

Yeah, there’s some trashy people and druggies, but it’s not that widespread.

Like just go into any of the breweries or restaurants or attend some of the events.

DidDunMegasploded t1_ivynh81 wrote

The druggies and trashy people are only downtown. The further up you go by the shops (MB, Kohls, etc.), the better it is. Although I do question the shit that goes on in the Walmart parking lot sometimes...but it's Walmart, so I'm not too surprised.

Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Practice common sense instead of slapping a metaphorical sign that says "I'm a Willing Victim of Crime" on your back every time I go out. If I go out to breweries and restaurants, I'm having protection on me and most definitely not going at night, especially since I'm a woman.

The only times I’ve been sketched out in Biddo are when the streets are completely empty.

Not saying crime doesn’t happen, but it’s much more rare than you think. Biddeford is much sleepier than you’re giving it credit for.

There’s literally hundreds of people out at bars and restaurants downtown every night and they don’t seem to have an issue.

Also, I moved to Biddeford because you can walk to coffee shops, breweries and restaurants.

Having boring safe suburban areas isn’t impressive.

I'm getting the feeling common sense is a virtue you lack...so consider our convos an offer for you to gain it.

If you worked in law, you might be singing a different tune. I was raised to be smart, to read the news often, and to be wary of your surroundings and the people around you, even in one of the safest states in the nation.

Biddeford is experiencing a rash of car and package robberies right now, particularly on Pool Street (and the surrounding streets) for some reason. That should be enough to make any smart person wary. It makes me wary for sure--I invested in security cameras and have not looked back since.

People who go out on Biddo streets at night usually have someone with them, which is a very good idea and one I absolutely support because it's common sense. You don't walk alone on Biddo streets; that's a fool's errand through and through. You can walk to coffee shops and breweries all you want, if that's what you moved here for--but it's much better and much safer with a friend or family member, at all hours of the day.

Good try, but a bunch of bad apples aren't going to make me move out of Maine.

You're more than welcome to let yourself become a victim of crime so I can laugh at your stupidity, though.

Lived here most of my life other than a year in Arizona when I was 15 and a year in Florida when I was 20.

I'm not the one complaining about how unsafe the state of Maine and the city of Biddeford are. I was simply offering you a solution to help you feel safer.

DidDunMegasploded t1_ivzr58s wrote

It's not complaining. It's spitting facts. But at least now I know why you're so triggered and offended, especially on the first second outta the gate.

I lived in Maine most of my life too. The difference, though, is that I know people who work in law, so I know the ins and outs of sketchy cities and criminals, including Biddeford. I know how to keep myself safe in ways that do not involve getting a mortgage on a house OOS. Dumb people call my knowledge and tips paranoia. Smart people call them common sense.

Dang_ol_stupid_bitch t1_iw1or8s wrote

You should really get out and experience the rest of the world. Maine is incredibly mundane in comparison. It looks like you would be a total basketcase anywhere else.

Yes I do. I live in Biddeford. I also lived in Saco for over 5 years, right near the border. I know people that know the ins and outs of Maine's justice system, including Maine crime and Maine criminals. Biddeford isn't an exception. It's not the crime-free paradise people think it is.

Stacked up against other cities OOS, there's no contest. Stacked up against other Maine cities, now there's a contest.

Better safe than sorry.
