How's everyone else doing?

I know a lot of us are still without power. We're away for the holidays and approaching 3 days without power back home now. Thank god for the generator and working internet so I can keep an eye on everything remotely (sensors telling me the genny is still running and that my sump pump, which was pumping every 5' Saturday is now down to about every 30' tonight).

CMP is saying they hope to have everyone back by Tuesday.

Getting a bit worried about running out of propane tho, but as long as we get through tonight I'm sending our supplier in to top up the tank tomorrow. šŸ¤ž

Stay safe!!

We are still out in Sweden, 50 hours here too, after 90 hrs last week with it. We had 2 and a half days before we lost power again. Itā€™s been a tough couple of weeks. Very grateful for a generator and wood stove.

Keep your chin up. The boys are out there working in the cold, doing what can be done to get you out of the dark.

Keep holding on, we got our power back after about 53hrs, luckily I was able to borrow a generator from my friend

My parents got it back yesterday, but I'm still out. And probably will be for a few more days.
Big tree came down on our dead end side road and ripped some lines down. They cleared the tree yesterday so at least we can drive out, but not sure how much of a priority five houses are for the line crews atm. Oh well, what're ya gonna do. I'm just happy the tree got cleared.

Iā€™m jealous of your set up. I wish I had a sensor for my sump pump so I know how much itā€™s working as opposed to listening close every time Iā€™m in the room above it.

u/PatsFreak101 and anyone else interested. Very simple actually! Both my generator and sump pump are dumb. No smart features. But I picked up these vibration sensors. One is zip tied to the outflow pipe of the sump, and the other 3Md to the control panel of the generator. They report to the hub (which came with this motion sensor as kit, that I use to let us know if there was a delivery way down at our mailbox), and they have excellent range.

So for the genny, I can tell if it has done its weekly exercise OK (because otherwise there's no way to know if it failed unless you pop the hood). For the sump, I can keep an eye on its general activity.

The system is awesome for stupid cheap money. Now before anyone says it, yes it isn't perfect. If the WiFi or your ISP goes MIA, then it can't help.

We're on day 5 now without power, but Tidewater's fiber is still up. Everything is checking in and I know there's mail in the box too, lol. The peace of mind was worth it.

Thank you so much. I didnā€™t know what short of a camera would be an option. Thereā€™s a few ā€œdumbā€ appliances I might use these for to know when theyā€™re done/in use.

I gathered up some water for bathing and flushing the toilet. I already burn wood. I have a generator so food don't go bad. We have a pond to get more water if we have to. I never lost it. Good luck to you all. This is why I won't go with a heat pump.

I was a kid but I remember it well. We had to move large trees to even get out of the neighborhood. Power was out for ~2 weeks for us.

Oh, I remember the ice storm very well. Outages did indeed last longer, but it was in the 40s, not the teens. Makes a huge difference.
