Nevermind the fact that you can get a medical card with no actual examination, it's essentially a $50 tax that sounds slightly better than saying you use recreationally.

I like to think about it as a mug club, I pay $50 a year and get much less expensive products. I've done the math, it still saves me money. Plus, with a med card you have some legal protections in certain environments (e.g., certain work conditions, etc.).

This is a myth. Maine does not maintain a registry of people with med cards, and there is no law in Maine that prevents someone with a med card from purchasing a gun.
Lying on Form 4473 about drug use, however, is illegal, and would apply equally whether you have a med card or use recreational cannabis products.

My understanding of it is in context to the form for the background check so that makes sense as it is a “lying crime” vs something that would be immediately caught. Thanks for clarifying.
