Get some bait fish from a bait store. Some of them have pretty good colors. Thats legally only native fish us peasants can keep.

Yeah I checked in that but some bait fish get big so I'm looking for the smallest kind - ones that don't get big.

Oh. Gotcha. Ya. They can get big. They have info on the maine website abiut fishing. Had specs and id on the common bait fish. Could compare the sizes there

Mummichugs and sticklebacks are both less than 3 inches at adulthood - easy to catch with a minnow trap in a salt marsh and pretty tolerant/hardy but prefer brackish water

Have fun! They are both quite charismatic in my opinion :) the mummichogs would be happiest in a small school. During the breeding season, stickleback males build nests and can be quite territorial - I haven’t kept them longer than a few days for class presentations so I’m not sure of their general needs. They do show up in Aquariums though so can be kept in tanks!
