I have not. There's tons of airbnbs available in Portland. I asked for help with somewhere to stay in Bar Harbor, as there does not seem to be a lot of airbnb's there and the hotels are really worksheets

"There's tons of airbnbs in Portland" yes this is the problem. Soon we will need to bus people in to feed you. So sad to live in a city that is just one huge hotel.

Maybe my computer is messing up but I don't see any comment that shows your itinerary. People book a year or more out in BH so I would book here ASAP. I am trying to be helpful, not negative.

Sorry, I just always assume people are being snarky! I just realized my itinerary didn't post, let me fix that

Traveling to Maine in September with my husband (we're in our 40's). I was hoping to get some help with my itinerary! We're doing 2-3 nights in Portland and then 2-3 nights in Bar Harbor. He wants to do a lot of relaxing, drinking beer, eating good local food. I don't eat seafood, and want to see the local sights and do some hiking (nothing too hard or long, not my husband's idea of a good vacation!). So far I have: Portland- Ferry to Peaks Island, go to some breweries (Allagash and Bissel Brothers), walk around Old Port, go to Freeport and check out Wolfe Neck State Park and Maine Beer Company. We'll stop at Coastal Maine botanical gardens on the way to Bar Harbor. For Bar Harbor, I have: make a reservation for sunrise hike to Cadillac Mountain; Jordan pond hike and bubbles, and then popovers at Jordan Pond House. Walk the sand bar at low tide to Bar Island. Maybe take a ferry somewhere (whale watching? I'd like to see wildlife). In Portland we'll probably stay at an airbnb in our near Old Port. Any recommendations to stay in Bar Harbor? Hotels are ridiculously expensive. Is it better to stay close to town? We will have a car. And I've seen tons of posts that say restaurants, etc, aren't really open after the summer. We'll be there mid- September: are many things going to be closed at that time? I'll take any critiques or advice you wanna throw at me! My husband is just getting back from a deployment in the Middle East the week before, and I want this trip to be nice!
