Knitting Nook in South Portland is great! People are super friendly and the owner, Lisa, organizes trivia nights, bingo, cribbage matches, etc.

The Equality Community Center hosts a bunch of groups, meetings, and events that are not alcohol-centric. :) That would be a reasonable place to start!

Have you checked out ogunquit? I’m not queer so I can’t really speak to the scene/vibe there, but a lot of my LGBTQ+ friends like it there- I really can’t give an opinion either way so YMMV

Try women’s softball next summer, garden centers/hardware stores and Wednesday night drag shows at Geno’s Rock club in Portland.

MaineTransNet, which is kindly hosted by the ECC, also has cool events. Pretty much even informal gatherings are considered to be dry by default out of respect. If anything involving drugs or alcohol comes up I've always seen it navigated carefully. The Equality Community Center and Maine Trans Net both have online social options (Discord) which I can help folx find if so needed.
