Just got a new Toyota Tacoma truck and I am looking for places where I can take it off-road.
I want to put this truck to the test where it is legal. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Side Note: Any Tacoma owners want to go off-roading with me?

This guy clearly works in finance.
Not even close, bud
Mostly what you’ll find around Bangor are old logging roads. The longer it’s been since the area was actively logged, the rougher they’ll be. Not really anything around like the 4x4 trails they have on federal land out west, or f-roads in Iceland.
It would be cool to have a multi-day overlanding route with designated campsites (something pretty rough, that actually requires high clearance and four wheel drive and maybe fording water)
That’s pretty much what I’m looking for, 4x4 trails. I would imagine there’s gotta be a few good places around here besides just logging roads.
Overlanding route with campsites would be awesome!
It's illegal to take road vehicles on ATV trails in Maine. The only way to take trucks off road in Maine would be a privately owned course. There used to be one or two but it was just a 1/2 mile circuit in a back yard. Maine does not have public land like other states.
Studmill Rd?
Drive all the way to Rocky mountain Terrain Park in Carthage?
Go up to Sunkaze in Milford. Plenty of trails up there. Waldo mountain in Frankfort is another good one.
Where in the Milford Sunkhaze? I’ve been back there but they’re mostly just dirt roads that I’ve found. Anything out there gnarlier than just dirt roads?
Grab your gazateer and keep going north. If you want something real rugged you will need to go west. Eustis area is great. Bring supplies.
Congrats! Got a Taco too. Best bet is to get a Delorme gazetteer and go from there. Stud Mill comes off Rt 2 heading east in Milford, just north of Old Town. Loads of logging roads out that way. Just be mindful that there are gates that are often closed this time of year and until mud season is over.
The gazetteer is definitely super helpful to find all sorts of things. I’ll check out the stud mill rd soon.
Let me know if you wanna meet up and take the tacos out sometime! Would be great to meet some like minded people 🤙🏻
Hey man fellow taco owner here! There’s a fb group/YouTube channel called Adventure Maine about trail riding. Might also wanna join the Stuck in Maine fb group (it’s dedicated to helping stranded or stuck people, usually off road. Lot of the guys have winches and off road rigs and stuff)
Go down the studmill and just start taking random roads off it, just remember what way you went or download maps so that way you can find your way back
Just be wary, I have a ‘17 Silverado with a 6” lift a 35”s and bottomed out on some of the trails
Download OnX off road
After Friday? Just give dirt roads near any body of water a whirl...

The only thing resembling off road is going to be an old logging road. There isn’t much for “trails” except for ATV routes and those are not legal to take a motor vehicle on. You could try Stud Mill and see what you can find, but the weather is supposed to warm and tearing up the roads while it’s muddy isn’t exactly good stewardship.
I’ve always used this for finding off beaten paths. it includes washouts and gates which is helpful.
