Called a Pseudoscorpion, believe it or not. They are harmless. Quite cool to look at.

They eat they bad bugs in your house! Fun fact: they will grab ahold of the legs of flies to hitch a ride to a new location!! I've only ever found 2 in my life because they are so small and like to stay hidden where the dust gathers...

Cool, I didn't know we had pseudo scorpions in Maine

I remember the first time I saw one of these. I think I Googled "tick with crab claws", and that got me to the answer via a bug forum I've long since forgotten.

It's ridiculous but in the emergency I worked in last at least half of the egghead doctors and PA's couldn't recognize a tick if it bit them on the ass. They just don't teach entomology at med school.

PS - that's not a tick.

Nope, not at allll. They just want to live in your dust and the cracks in floorboards and eat dust mites amd other critters. And they don't have poison or stings you need to worry about and you wouldn't feel those pincers even if they tried to grab you. Some of the goodest of bugs for bug haters: almost never see them and they eat other bugs

I live in New England so I don’t have to worry about creepy crawly shit like this. I’d rather run across a pissed of moose or bear, than a docile black mamba or one these whatever the fuck you wanna call em!!

I’ve definitely seen one or two of these an panic squished them not being sure what they were. RIP my little helpful homies, won’t be doing that again.

Lol i knew the use of the word insect was gonna get me in trouble. Cool that these are arachnids though.

Are ticks arachnids or are these guys not related in any way?

You want these guys around! Pseudoscorpions are one of the best pest killers in your home.

His parents separated when he was kid. His dad is actually a scorpion and so his mom moved back to Maine and he grew up as a deer tick who could box.

Maine is in New England, dude. You said “I live in New England so I don’t have to worry about creepy crawly shit like this.”

How old are you? You must be pretty young if you live in New England and don’t even know all the states in this region.

I’m 52. What part of sarcasm do you not understand? I’ll gladly explain it to you if you’d like. Seems everyone else understood it. So, instead of making snide remarks about my intelligence level or making a douche comment about my age, maybe you should take your own inventory.

breath-of-the-bong t1_j07xza6 wrote

That’s a pseudoscorpion. They are not actually scorpions, but they have a little claws like them, no stinger, and they hunt tiny insects! They will eat book mites and such. Very cool to have around

Lieutenant_Joe t1_j081b3f wrote

Guy, you’re the only downvoted person on the whole thread. You’re really gonna tell me “everyone else understood it”?

These things literally exist in New England, contrary to your original comment.

Way cool. Once again, I've learned something new without having to pry my skinny butt off the couch. Thanks to all those who contributed to my new knowledge of pseudoscorpions. (Which would make a good name for a cover band.)

And imagine my relief that it's not a mutated tick.
