Submitted by GeoWannaBe t3_10ojgrh in Maine

I'm a senior and sadly headed out to Tampa for a funeral (sister) and wondering if I can take my CBD arthritis medication with me. I am registered in Maine and have a license to medically use it. I make my own CBD peanut butter and I would prepare a few CBD crackers to carry with my other snacks. This particular formula helps me sleep pain free. My one and only bag will be a carry on.

Now the question, I know Feds won't like it, but is there any real risk associated with me doing it? Any flyers out there with experience. I understand if this gets taken down, but I would really appreciate some advice from others. I apologize if this gives the Admins concern.

You will 100% be ok. I have flown multiple times with THC products in my carry on out of PWM. You're flying from one legal state to another. TSA is concerned about weapons, not marijuana products, especially CBD. Safe travels, sorry to hear about your sister.

Thank you, that gives me so much more confidence.

I wouldn't be so sure... I've seen DEA agents with dogs at airports within the last year. They're federal agents so the state laws on THC products don't matter.

CBD is federally legal. Can even buy it and get it shipped in the mail.

I flew from PWM to BNA(Nashville) and tsa even checked my bags and didn’t confiscate my pens or oil.

TSA doesn't care about personal quantities of drugs let alone CBD. They're concerned about safety on the plane

I've never *not* flown without a quantity of CBD on me.

I aways pack pens with toiletries so it blends in but TSA is not looking for weed.

CBD is legal nationwide. 0 risk.

Just know that they only you allow to “carry on” a certain size container of peanut butter. I’ve seen TSA make someone throw a large container away. But you can check any size into your “checked luggage”.

There is unequivocally zero risk to flying with CBD. You could walk up to a TSA agent and offer them one of your CBD peanut butter crackers and there would be a bigger risk of getting in trouble for endangering someone with peanut allergies than getting in trouble for the CBD.

Peanut butter comes back the same signature on scanners as plastic explosive, so that's a thing to be cautious about.

Yikes, evidently there are news reports of people smuggling things in jars of PN butter. They treat a jar of PB just like they would treat a jar of any liquid. They investigate it. I'm only talking a few crackers in a plastic snack bag.

I got pulled aside once for a couple of Reeces cups, so yeah. But that was a different airport.

Personally, I'd be wary of bringing federally illegal stuff onto federal property, and just buy stuff when you get there. The risk to reward ratio seems off, but I'm very risk averse.
