They also ripped me off last week. Tested my battery for free. Said the battery was fine but my starter failed, so I made an appointment to get it replaced. Brought the truck in. They call me 15 minutes later saying my battery wasn’t providing enough charge in order for them to run a full diagnostic on my starter and alternator. Told em to do what they had to do…I kind of laughed and knew where it was going but my truck was already in their garage. and I also thought my starter was gone because it had supposedly failed their test. All in all starter was fine. Charged me 375 bucks.

I will also add that I reluctantly went to vip because I can’t find a decent mechanic in my area that isn’t booked for months out. I’m a carpenter not a mechanic although since I bought my truck I have been trying to do any work I can on my own. Recently blew a bunch of discs in my back and haven’t been able to do a whole lot. I really just needed my truck to be sound. If anyone has any suggestions for the Gardiner/Augusta area I’d appreciate it.

This was a long time ago in Presque Isle, but I let them work on my old Jeep once and I watched them just rev the absolute piss out of it, take it for a joy ride and it was still broken. Worse, in fact.

I worked at a combo oriellys and vip - nobody I worked with that didn’t do their own work went to vip. I’d used them a few times with no issue but they are def trained to upsell for things that don’t super need fixing.

VIP broke part of my wheel changing a tire. They also said they changed my oil once and definitely did not.

Yeah, so, uh, PSA: VIP can and will rip you off by any and all means necessary. It's a fool's errand to go there vs. an independent trustworthy mechanic.
They also ripped off my mother. Tried to charge her for additional repairs on parts that were in perfect working condition. Needless to say, she never went there again after that.
EDIT: And that was two decades ago, BTW. They haven't changed. They never will change.

Big difference between having some rust and having a fist size hole on the bottom of your car. Rust can be fixed, a gaping hole is more problematic.

I was in line at a VIP when they told the customer ahead of me - in for all four brakes - that they would also charge (full price) for rotating the tires.

I've had good experience with VIP in Saco. I've had my Model 3 tires changed there twice and both times I watched on the camera as they did it. They used white gloves and made sure there was no wheel damage to my 19's. They also did it on short notice. No complaints tbh.

I wonder if you’re getting such different treatment than every other poster in this thread because they know your car has cameras mounted 360 degrees around the car. Kinda hard to fuck something up on it and claim it was like that if you’re just gonna pull up the camera footage anyways?

Fuck VIP. Paid them to put a new battery in my car, I come home, pop the hood — nope, still the same old battery. Called and was told the service writer had made "an error."
That was only months after I went for an oil change and VIP overtightened the oil plug and I ended up with a nasty leak.
They corrected the problem both times but I'm done with that outfit.
