Not an old timer but the old timers spend their time standing around. Seen em wear sketchers out there. Go for Chippewas in the spring summer fall. If it's super sloppy go for muks avoid Carolinas. If your gonna be out there freezing your ass off get some refrigiwears.

I like Merrell’s for warm weather and Nat’s for winter. I go composite toe. I was told if anything heavy enough lands on steel toe, potential for severing toes is real.

Chippewas are the most comfortable steel toe I have found after working many years in a lumber mill.
Comfortable and sturdy. My latest pair is a little over 2 years old.

I have a cobbler maintain my chippewas. Got a pair of carolina's last year it sprung a leak but was also the wrong size. I overshot accomodating winter socks. Got a new pair this year. Sprung a leak immediately. I wanted em to work out but 2x in a row is inexcusable.

I used to wear Chippewas, my last pair of those didn’t last very long and I decided to go away from logger boots and bought a pair of Keens. The Keens have held up really well so I’ve bought a second pair with life left in the first pair. Composite toe so it’s less cold and a little lighter. I walk anywhere from 2-10 miles a day out in the woods so I go through boots.

Best boots I’ve worn on a construction site. Wear them year round.
They’re all a little different with arch support/comfort so just do what feels best on your feet!

I have a 15 year old pair of Carolinas that took me up thousands of feet of trees wearing spurs, and still keeps water out.

Just paid 350 for a new pair, they’re repairable and my last pair lasted 3 years. So $100/year roughly on boots that I only had to replace because the waterproof finally gave out at the crease. They’re still more than functional for dry work though.

Timberland pro used to be my go to, but I think they changed the soles as my last two pairs split within 6 months.

Not the old school choice, but I go with the American made Danners these days. Current pair is going strong after two years. For non steel toe I like Chippewas, but I have high arches and the toe cap rubs the top of my foot.

Last pair were issue. Fuckin things never wear out and ate toenails every Friday when I finally got to take em off. Hated steel toes. Bought the first pair of composite in 83 I think. Still in the closet but never get worn. Carolinas just don't die.

Red Wing and Timberland are top brands. I used to work construction years ago and Red Wings were always popular for their comfort, durability and waterproof. They are expensive though. Timberland are a close second among others.
