Geeze imagine if Bangor and Portland said “Sorry you can’t be homeless, unless you were a resident before you went homeless.”

Why gatekeep warming shelters?

Doesn’t make sense to me either.

I know if the Lincoln PD found someone homeless downtown they would spend the 2 hours of Lincoln taxpayer money to drop them off on Kenduskeag Ave in Bangor.

How will they know if someone doesn't have ID on them?

"Sorry, sir. We checked tax maps, and your house is just over the border in Lee. You and your children are free to huddle on the stoop outside, though."

“Breathe in the boiler’s exhaust for heat before it freezes, you tax evading Lee-tard”

-Lincoln PD, probably

Oh my gosh this is hilarious. I lived in Lincoln my entire life and why have I never thought to call someone a Lee-tard???

How do they even check to see if you're a resident? Are they scanning ID's and driver's licenses at the door or something? And if so, what if you don't have either one? Do you get given a "fuck you lawl bye bitch" and cruelly turned away?

Say it isn't so. Say the town that proudly has "FUCK BIDEN" flags flying on the main drag all summer long isn't well put together. Tell me the insecurities of the little men in that town aren't going to cause them to be uncouth to yet another person.

The long-smelled stench of Lincoln was never that of a mill; it was the soul of the town itself.

Lincoln has lots of old people and i'm sure had to put restrictions to insure there is even enough capacity to house all residents that might need it.

I’m new to Lincoln & don’t really know anyone yet, but trying to spread the word in case it helps anyone out.

Same I don’t really know anyone either but thanks for looking out.

Isn't it supposed to be stupidly cold during the day stay too?

24

JayhawkInMaine OP t1_j6rwxqn wrote

It is. Wind chill Friday afternoon is -20° to -30° and continues until after sunset on Sat.

raynedanser t1_j6s60t8 wrote

So apparently people are screwed during the day? I've seen reports for during the day of -55

StrikingExamination6 t1_j6skrc8 wrote

Also, the public works garage will likely be operational during the work day. It would probably be dangerous to have people trying to keep warm inside while trucks are pulling in and out all day.

ToesocksandFlipflops t1_j6sgpwg wrote

There are other options during the day... restaurants store etc.

Not sure where you're from, but businesses aren't going to want potentially unbalanced homeless people loitering inside to keep warm. Unfortunately.

Second winter in Lincoln. They good people here, we won't need it. But still checking on our older neighbors and making sure we are ready and they know it's a possibility. Just think it's nice they are doing it in general. ☺️

Just dawned on me- imagine what would happen to the influx of out of state residents if "it gets so cold here that we have literal warming shelters" got out

StrikingExamination6 t1_j6skyi9 wrote

They have warming shelters in pretty much every city. Fun fact, it gets cold in other places too.

inpantspro t1_j6s3chd wrote

Parts of Minnesota have warm tunnels underground from business to business to get to work/school, because it gets so cold. Still plenty of people there.
