It’s right in front of where customers come out so it’s easy to get distracted, the turn is also an acute angle and feels natural to cut the corner. The sign/bollard also often lines up with the windshield pillars.
Source: my wife hit the pole, and I came embarrassingly close once.

Because in addition to everything else said, they are also exceeding the speed limit within a parking area by a fair margin.
