My partner and I are getting married in the Portland area this coming September and we are looking to get a female dj. If anyone has some suggestions that would be much appreciated!

DJ Corbin or DJ Gforce. Both very experienced and can play literally anything you want.

Looking into them now, thank you.

They are known for underground dance, but they both also play retro hits and can do music for a wedding with old people and kids and stuff.

It won’t be a typical wedding, disco camp vibes is the idea. So something different is what we want.

DJGforce can be found easily on Facebook. Corbin can be found googling Atlantic Event Design.

Is this a female only wedding? 🤔

No, my fiancé would like a female dj so that’s what I’m looking for.

That’s an interesting request from a bride with everything else that needs to be planned/booked. Good luck.

Not sure why that’s such an interesting request to ask for a female dj instead of a male, but thanks anyways.

Seyword t1_j972h71 wrote

As long as it’s a request and not a demand I guess that’s reasonable.

It's "interesting" because the gender of the DJ shouldn't matter, and the idea of specifically wanting a female DJ is retarded as fuck. https://media.tenor.com/J1E831ZEdQAAAAAd/in-said-good-day-willy-wonka-and-the-chocolate-factory.gif

Good job showing your ableism. You couldn't find any other adjective to use other than a slur? Specifically wanting a female DJ is dumb? Stupid? Idiotic?

FWIW, it helps me weed out people who are ableist and don't have a good grasp on the English language.

I have Autism and I think you're retarded bub. Your whole argument is pretty retarded. You don't need to be a damn keyboard warrior there bub.

> I have autism

Lmfao. Sure, and I'm the Pope.

I'm not being a keyboard warrior at all. "Retarded" is a slur whether you like it or not, and if you use it then you're not just ableist, but you are absolutely piss-poor at using the English language. That's not even my own personal opinion--that's just pure straight facts. There are a shit-ton of better adjectives to use.

All you're doing is making yourself out to be an ableist who has a 50/50 chance of playing the autism card for empathy points.

Flimsy_Perception_94 t1_j9a242e wrote

I actually do have autism. And if you're the Pope then Bob Marley would be fucking estatic to have one from Maine. I'm not a damn ableist. Now you can very kindly go fuck yourself and dispose of your retarded ideologies.

Yes you are an ableist, whether you are autistic and have the medical papers to prove it or don't and are just lying on the Internet. You can insinuate you aren't an ableist all you want, but all you're doing is making yourself out to be a complete idiot. It's a lose-lose situation.

There are a million words in the English dictionary to use and yet you go right for the word that has been turned into a hateful slur without even considering any other words. Says quite a lot about you without anyone even needing to engage with you--mainly that you are an ableist asshole that people should stay far the fuck away from.

Because I subscribe to the theory that a word has no harmful meaning if you don't let it have one. People who keep pushing that a word has harmful meaning are the ones who perpetuate it's use as a weapon. I'm not ableist you're just not seeing the bigger picture. Letting a word get to you is the problem.

DidDunMegasploded t1_j9bc3ue wrote

Ohhh, so you're one of those idiots. The "slurs don't exist because they're just words that don't have meaning if you don't let them have meaning" breed of idiot. The username checks out, at least.

Yep, I've played this song and dance before with someone else entirely who was also ableist, and I'm gonna tell you once again...whether you like it or not, you are ableist, and that is the truth that you can either take or leave as you so choose.

The R slur is used as an insult. It's never, and I repeat, never used in a positive light. You can't really take a word that has been coined to mean "slow" and has been linguistically shaped by society to become a term referred to a legitimate disorder and then an insult and just wipe it free so it has a clean slate, where it can mean whatever you want it to mean. Not how that works.

Same applies to all slurs, not just those that are derogatory towards autistic people. Words have meaning, and the meaning changes all the time, but in terms of slurs, there is no giving them clean slates to make their meanings positive.

Consider this the only explanation that I give you. You can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves, and I'm not willing to deal with stubborn ableists any more in-depth today.

I'm not a fucking ableist. Get that notion out of your god damn motherfucking head. At this point you're using the word ableist as a weapon against people you don't agree with. You ever hear the saying "Sticks and Stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me?" People who let words hurt them are letting the words hurt them, they can ignore it and eventually the word loses it's meaning. You just want to keep perpetually giving those words their meaning. You're arming the people you're fighting against by giving them weapons that you can choose to nullify. And at this point my original comment stands, you're a fucking keyboard warrior who needs to grow the fuck up and understand this shit. I am not disparaging the differently abled, you are. By connecting a word to them you yourself are asigning a meaning to it to harm them.

Edit: The other person blocked me however I was able to read the comment they replied with. To which I shall use the following below as a reply.

Firstly, I didn't do the "this person needs help" reddit thing, someone else must've or you could be lying about that altogether. Either way it doesn't matter as you have shown you'd rather block someone and scream they're an Ableist repeatedly rather than actually have a civil discussion. That screams that you're either losing the argument in your own mind, or that you've given up which is the same as admitting defeat.

Secondly: You give power to the words as weapons by giving them meaning. You and others linking those words to that meaning is what keeps them being bad words. You can let go and everything will settle out eventually. You are enabling the use of the words to hurt others by constantly telling people to not use the words because they're derogatory towards certain groups of people. If you give the words no meaning they cannot hurt people.

Thirdly: This is Maine honey, where words like Retard, Queer, and Moron alongside many other words that people deem offensive are still used because their meaning up here is not offensive nor used in an offensive way. Example: I'm driving in my car and see a elephant crossing the road I might say "well that was wicked Queer" now why can I say that? Because up here Queer isn't a sexual term, it still holds it's original meaning of Odd or Strange.

Fourthly: You keep pushing the label of Ableist onto people who you disagree with, people who aren't using the word in an offensive manner. I get it you want to be super PC and correct everyone so they can be PC aswell, but you end up looking like a massive fucking douche much like PC Principal on South Park.

Fifthly: How the fuck can someone who has multiple Disabilities and lives off Disability (SSI) be fucking Ableist? I'm not going to give too much information on myself but you keep shoving a label onto me that just slides right the fuck off if you actually knew me.

Sixthly: Since this arguement is clearly over since you decided to block me, I'd like to make a statement to everyone who decides to read this shitshow of a comment chain. I myself am Disabled, I live off Disability, I cannot function enough to have a job.The claims this person has made to me lying about being disabled are just bullshit. They're reading a book by it's cover and using it as the basis for the whole person. People are complex and you cannot determine much about a person just based off of a small interaction like here on reddit. Definitely not enough to Claim someone is an Ableist, nor enough to claim they are "piss-poor at using English" and at that point aren't they the one being Ableist for shitting on someone with a disability?

1

DidDunMegasploded t1_j9csb88 wrote

You're so defensive about asserting you're not an ableist that you resorted to the old "send an automated Reddit message telling your opponent to get help" tactic. Which tells me you're fighting a losing battle and the losing part is on your end.

Whether you like it or not, the R slur has an accepted meaning within society, and that meaning just so happens to be a derogatory one as it pertains to the disabled--just as the word "ableist" has an accepted meaning within society that just so happens to mean "derogatory towards the disabled". Suck it up.

Take it or leave it. Either way, you've already lost the argument so I see no reason to continue further. Have fun with your deluded beliefs.

This is in no way accurate in 2023.

It is very much accurate. But I guess that depends on if you live in Southern Maine or the rest Maine. If you're exclusively in Southern Maine then yeah you'd think it's not accurate. But the rest of Maine? It's very accurate
