With all this condescension and snark, guarantee I have no interest in going there. Ever.

I dunno, this could have been written by half the bartenders there. It gets rowdy especially when the full regional sledneck cohort is there getting hammered, and they still maintain order with good humor to boot

It is feb break too, so somebody might be pretty frazzled tbh. But not a great look. For a bowling alley. It's not even a real restaraunt.

Much more of a honky tonk bar and restaurant than a bowling alley in my mind. At least after a certain time.

It used to be for sure, the People's Choice was sweet. But from the outside, it looked like this place wanted a more family friendly vibe. Which makes the "tripping kids" gag odd, it seems like they are trashing their own target demo. Tbh never been in there since it got all dressed up.

DayShiftDave t1_j9vfial wrote

Bowling alleys are historically kinda seedy, but I do get your point. I have only known it as Moose Alley, and only known it to be a place that is a decidedly adult bar after 8-9pm, which is usually when the music starts anyway. Same crowd as sarge's once a night gets going. Never been there in the summer, though - probably a different vibe, "lake vacation" stuff.

I have a little insight into a part of this anyway. I know over the last couple weeks in particular there have been more than a few instances of straight up trashed parents letting their 3-5yo kids just go hog wild screaming and spinning on the dance floor at like 9-10pm while people were playing music and there were patrons there who came to see the act. I can totally imagine that after a while management (who honestly has always been super cool with me anyway) would just be like “holy hell people, please just try not to be a total piece of shit”

It's really just a classic embodiment of the attitude in towns like Greenville and Rangeley, who 100% depend on tourism to survive, also hate and alienate the tourists at the same time.

Maybe this "flyer" or whatever is meant for a few bad parents... But everyone else is just like, wow this place must be run by assholes.

Yeah, you’re not wrong lol, I guess that’s the risk you can take when you’re the only entertainment option for 40 miles haha

Yes, yes, this. Poor social and business skills to put out a facebook blast instead of addressing it in house.

Yeah that blows but they should pick a lane. Ditch the arcade/bowling angle. There's nowhere else for the flatties to bring their kids. Put that outfit on and wear it, or change the outfit.

Little kids should be in bed after 8. Having three year olds out late is just bad parenting.

And has chefs making nachos.... big nachos. Do not disrupt the nacho chefs. And don't bring kids. If you do, grownups play at 8.

gigglybubbles t1_j9vwglm wrote

I understand what they are saying. I think honestly a lot of parents who just let their kids run around all over any establishment think "oh just let them have fun". No. This is someone's place of employment. You have to focus and if kids are running around all over the place it can get dangerous quick. It seems, in my opinion, they may just want to be an "adult only zone". Some people/businesses just don't want to cater to children which is understandable. It probably just upset a lot of families and maybe that's why there's such an uproar. I liked the list actually. Wish my old job had something like that. It gets old letting people just do what they want with no repercussions.

conflictedbosun OP t1_j9w0zzx wrote

I don't disagree with that at all. The rub there is that's a town with 7 bars in 1 square mile, and their whole song was family friendly to differentiate themselves. The funny bit is it's a seriously cornered market to out of town money, and it is where people bring kids. Because bowling/arcade, no other venue has that. Eliminate that and the kiddos can rough it at Sarges. But they will come, regardless - when it's only place with kid shit. What I found laughable was the chef/vibe/nacho/not slow/bussing station stuff. Like, whoever posted it - my business is not restaraunt mind you - I would be tempted to strangle. Pay us, tip us, and clean up after yourself. Hell if it works that's a great model.

But….it’s a bowling alley and an arcade. Kids are supposed to run around at those places. I bartended and served for years, and I would never let my child run around at a restaurant or pub or other sit-down eatery. My kid sits at a table with me and we color or play cards while we wait. But at an arcade? Seems like a perfect place to bring your kids on a snowy or rainy day…

Nah. No one in Rangeley would waste money on an ideas guy. This is just us getting sick of bullshit tourist behavior. Leave your entitlement at home, please.

conflictedbosun OP t1_j9yfr0r wrote

Lmao. That's shitty tourist behavior is what those joints rely on. Have you ever been to Rangeley? If so, I'm guessing you drink/smoke your breakfast. There is no tourist industry without tourists. And yeah, they have shitty manners. Everywhere they go.

−1

houndshmix t1_ja0eklh wrote

Bs. I’m there year round, including during the off seasons. Places can do just fine without tourists being assholes. Sounds like you just want to justify your own behavior.

2

WalkerBRiley t1_ja7pmkv wrote

Nah, the only reason places like this can even stay open year-round is because of increased tourist traffic over the summer. Without it, they'd be a seasonal place. Sounds like you just can't handle standard customer behavior. You want to own an establishment that caters to the public? Learn to deal with rude behavior.

2

houndshmix t1_ja9m8vx wrote

There’s a difference between standard customer behavior and customers being blatantly rude and entitled. I’m sure you only see it one way though.

On the one hand I've seen some of the stuff tourists pull up there. On the other hand, come on, Nancy. On the other, other hand, half the restaurants are closed half the week and the other half run out of half their menu items midway through Saturday dinner rush, so, captive audience.

Some of the decisions here are really really stupid.

conflictedbosun OP t1_ja81yqz wrote

The Sugarbowl in Carrabasset keeps the arcade going - better establishment all the way around, service/food/amenities. Bout 35/40 min from Rangeley via 16. But yeah, weird decisions for sure.
