i had nothing to do a few weekends ago, and came this close to just hopping in the car and driving to the auburn walmart to finally lay eyes on this menace.

OP, you're gonna have to stand out there with some airport traffic wands to help guide traffic.

We were tubing at Lost Valley and were too close to not make a detour.

I live in the area and frequent that walmart, have even witnessed a couple of the collisions these piles have been in. It almost feels strange to me that some people actually would set out to come see it...

I sure did. I'm very glad to know there are others out there (or at least one other!)who would consider a day trip to visit the infamous Auburn Walmart Car-Killer to be a big day out!

Definitely nothing wrong with it! Just as someone who sees that pole slmost weekly, it's lost its attraction for me! Come on up and visit the pole!

Can you explain why people run into it so often? To me it seems like a mostly typical sign in a parking lot.

I honestly wish I could. I have no idea why those particular posts are such magnets for cars. There doesn't seem to be any constant that I can think of other than those poles. It baffles me to this day.

A friend of mine postulated that maybe they’re doing it for the meme now. In this economy? I doubt it.

I thought about that as well, but at this point, insurance can't be covering these accidents..... and your right, in this economy, with the price of parts/cars... fuck that.

That type of balustrade is too low to be obvious from inside a typical vehicle, esp when driven by a a distracted person… they always have them around gas pumps, and I can’t remember how many people hit them while I was working at one, but it was a lot! Pay attention drivers, they are there to keep you from damaging more important property than your own vehicle- like pedestrians, gas pumps, or other parked cars…

I did bump one of those at a gas station while backing out of a spot by the door. It was shorter and narrower than my tailgate. I couldn't see it behind me at all. I thought I had an extra 6 inches, which I would have, if the post wasn't there.... but, at the end of the day, it didn't damage my truck or the post so who cares? Lol

Yeah, I’ve seen people ruin an entire side of their vehicle because they didn’t know how to get out of a situation once they got into it. Not pretty. But it IS better hitting a traffic control device than another person, tho. Seems like they’d have to be cutting through a parking area to hit that WalMart one to me… but I haven’t visited 🙄

It's becoming a bit of a tourist attraction and I really really wish it just wouldn't..... it's annoying.... that parking lot gets packed enough as it is..... can I help drive people away? Remember there was a shooting there within the last couple years?
