Title sums it up. Over $500 for a small new car and a 2.95% fee on top because their ATM doesn’t work in the lobby or it probably just ran out of money from the ridiculous fees they charge people. Can’t spare some of that $500 to cover the Debit card machine charges, cheapskates?
Meanwhile the snow still isn’t plowed on my street.

It’s absurd. I couldn’t imagine. She tried to bring up weight and I’m like uhh this is a tiny car that’s not playing into it at all. My old car was heavier and cost $104 last year. The fact that the car is new shouldn’t mean that it costs more to register. What type of nonsense logic is that? Why does some get to pay less to keep their old hunk of crap on the road?
It's a tax based on value.
New Hampshire ranks well for total state and local tax burden, our median total tax burden on residents is among the lowest in the east. even after adding in Auto registration (it's counted as a local "excise tax").
I just paid 500 in Sept for my new truck my birthday month is Feb just got my full year reg bill 1,300.
$900 for my new Tacoma last week.

After 5 years it drops to a reasonable amount and stays flat.
It's a calculation based on MSRP and age.
You can avoid high fees by buying used and reasonable costs.
Jeez mine was under $200 but newer cars are more likely to be stolen in Manch, I'm pretty sure the high crime rate factors in somehow.
Registration cost is not tied to auto theft, but insurance rates are.
I always thought weight was a factor too (due to wear and tear on roads), just verified it wasn't. TIL.
