My advice is never visit the keyboard related subs again. Otherwise something will catch your eye and you'll slide down the rabbit hole. I told myself something similar at the start and now own six keyboards.

Glad you like it! Don't feel like you need to have multiple boards to enjoy the ones that you have! It's a great look.

I think people underestimate how fantastic the Keychron Q's are.

I have an NK65 and a Glorious Pro and my Keychron Q12 is miles beyond both. For $200, what you get is mindblowing.

I'm like you. I joined and research just so i can find something i like and to know enough about the workings. I had no intention of hoarding kb as a hobby. this s*** is expensive AF and i dont have that kind of money to spend on kb.
I recently got an akko 5075b+ and im happy with it.... i got some shine-through low profile keycaps and some krytox lube for the cs silver switches.... I'm happy with it and have no desire to buy more kb now... maybe when this one breaks or starts having issues idk...

That's cool and I did that too but after rockin' through 3 Logitech K120 in a relative short time I decided it would be better in many ways to get one that serves me well for years to come.

everyone's gonna tell you it's not the last but i'm in the same boat- have had my space80 for a year now and genuinely haven't felt the need to even change anything, much less buy a new board. it's perfect to me

I just build my keychron q1 v2 and while I know it's not gonna be the last board I build in the next year, I feel no need to go out and pay 500 dollars for a board excluding switches, keycaps and stabs.

What kind of switches did you go with?

I didn't know the Q12 existed until I read your comment (doesn't seem to exist as far as ISO goes anyways).

Moving the numpad to the left side of the main keyboard is... so smart. Easier to keep a natural position infront of your monitor (big reason I use TKL/75s) but retaining the numpad. Cool stuff.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I've used Razer/Logitech/etc boards until recently. Bought the Q1V1 6 months ago.

In the meantime I also got a NextTime 75 board.

I'm having great fun with them, they're so much better than the typical "gaming keyboard" and I don't think I'll add to my collection unless I somehow happen to make more money than I know what to do with, and then I guess I'll splurge on an even better keyboard.

For it's price, the Q1 has great value, and should be able to satisfy most people. If it's enough for you, congrats. It seems to do the job well for me too.

I don’t think that this will ever happen to me. Much time went into the process of designing my perfect keymap before I bought this kb and smaller was really no option. Even other 75% were no option at the time of my purchase, because just the Q1 had the exact layout that I settled with.

1

_KJuns OP t1_j9ikl5m wrote

Thanks, it's the Pbtfans Spark Set. Mostly handlubed Milky Yellows: the three stabbed switches are frankenswitches I settled with after a long time of testing.

This seems like the same scenario when a kid is saying "I am never gonna get married" and proceeds to live 20 more years and have become a new person with new needs and wants.

Not saying you're a kid but your current beliefs and needs might very well change, being overly certain about what you want in the future is arrogant. Yes you might be 100% sure today, but there are untold scenarios which will change your current view.

I tried a bunch of keycaps, switches, plates and maaany complete boards in general. I decided after trying what to buy, again together with considerations about the layout. Meetups and friends made it possible. To clear that up: I didn't want to be mean or snippy: I once posted a clip of the sound of this board and I just wanted to know if you heard it. But it seems that it has been deleted. Sorry

MBSMD t1_j9m7kms wrote

What does it matter. If he likes it, then he likes it. No need to turn your nose up. I'm sure your first few weren't perfection. Not everyone needs to sink $1000 in to a keyboard. For $200, the OP has himself a better keyboard than 99.9% of all users. The expensive road to perfection has diminishing returns.

1

MBSMD t1_j9m810h wrote

Don't listen to him. If you like your build, then enjoy it. It's better than 99.999% than all other keyboards out there save for maybe a few thousand esoteric hyper-enthusiast builds.

2

MBSMD t1_j9m8rpy wrote

100%. I've got three Q-series builds (one for each of my three machines). Each one different, each one personalized, and each one so much fun to type on. I feel no need to spend $500 on a keyboard, either. A $190 barebones board and $100 worth of switches and keycaps are more than satisfactory for me. It's not a competition and the only one who uses them is me anyway, so I only need to make myself happy and no one else.

I think my Q12 might be the most I've spent on one so far, I couldn't get a barebones since I bought on the day it was announced, so it was $205 for the keyboard, $50 for caps and I think around $40 for a set of switches. I'll keep the original switches and keycaps as spares just in case.

1

MBSMD t1_j9m90ol wrote

Agreed. I replaced the switches with Baby Kangaroos and keycaps with a different set, did a force break mod, added some thin case foam, and it sounds amazing.
