The balance between upscale minimalism and rustic jankiness is amazing.

Never have I ever seen a rock fit in as a monitor stand so well.

Nice setup with an awesome view. Are you planning to upgrade the table down the line? For me that material just sucks up dirt after a while, especially if not treated.

It kinda seems like a cool table if it was sanded and sealed properly.

43

spiceddrum OP t1_j8to5h1 wrote

Yeah you're definitely right. It's been sanded but I really need to seal it

motherless666 t1_j8tx8m2 wrote

Looks amazing but I hope you get a mousepad! I'm imagining using a mouse on that surface, unsealed, oof

Also nice view!

I just found a really good butcher block that I converted into a desk top for a customer a few months back (it was under $200) and stained it with some raw Lin seed oil. That would definitely fit your vibe there.

Edit: It looks like Lowes has them on order for cheaper than that. Plus woodworking is fun (also addictive) when you start learning.

Yes, I knocked over the plant and got a splinter in my wrist just by looking at this photo.

I can feel the splinters in my wrist from here

spiceddrum OP t1_j8tp0nq wrote

Sanded it back pretty hard but I definitely built the desk a touch too high for bare wood. I'll definitely tweak it as she goes though

FuzzyBallz666 t1_j8wghs1 wrote

You can get manual standing desk feet for a reasonable price (150$ cad).

This is nice not just for the ability to stand, but also to dial in the perdect height when seated since it's kinda hard to guess in advance.

If you like to diy, as it seems you do, it's really a great and versatile thing to own :)

Wait, is that a RV or trailer or something like that? On first sight, the picture seemed to depict a really luxurious, high-end, minimalist office but then I saw the wood and the improvised stuff and finally the window borders on the left side. Don‘t get me wrong it seems like a really nice place to work. I was just surprised by the window frames when I saw them. The Keyboard looks nice too btw. Nothing better to increase the joy in a desk-job than a good keyboard.

spiceddrum OP t1_j8todkp wrote

It's an old bus actually, doesn't drive anymore but I lived in it a while back. It's now just the home office

thorny_hacks t1_j8tu24o wrote

That sounds like a pretty good use and as everyone tends to agree, the view is fantastic! Kudos.

11

thereverter t1_j8ul5bw wrote

Wow that’s clever! Have you put AC in it and insulation? Hard to tell from the picture but looks like it may get hot there from time to time.

4

spiceddrum OP t1_j8v1x52 wrote

No AC but very insulated and all the windows (and roof vents) open easy so you can always just open up the breeze

The balance of raw materials and technology honestly looks so clean. The keyboard looks so nice since it matches in the same earthy tones in your room and outside the window. I would probably be driven crazy by the mouse on plywood but some sacrifices have to be made for things to just look good. haha

Exactly what I thought. That fucking baked-dry farmland in the distance and rough bush in front.

1

Life_Bridge_9960 t1_j8sqpw2 wrote

The view is absolutely nice. Though I wonder how monitor would look in front of a very bright background (the window). Would it cause a lot of glare that makes the monitor look too dark?

2

spiceddrum OP t1_j8toimt wrote

Yeah have actually just put in some wooden blinds but for photos sake it looks nicer without them

3

Life_Bridge_9960 t1_j8utah8 wrote

I see. Make sense.

I learned it the hard way by moving my desk next to the window to enjoy the view. Then by day, especially sunny day, it’s impossible to do any work.

LosdaVS t1_j8vdnjl wrote

You are obviously not a gamer, no one would want to slide a mouse on a surface like that for hours. A it's insane drag and B it wears off mouse-feet so fast... So anyway it means you don't need mouse space for low sense fps gaming, why not go for a 100% keyboard and increase productivity since this is home office anyway? Don't get me wrong it's all cool but for me it would still be function over design.

Is better to have a glass on top of the table. The wood can peels off easily. With the plant and mug, you will be having water mark on table too.
