At work, I use a mac complete with a TKL ultra thin keyboard. I've perhaps voiced my opinion a few times. I've asked if I could bring one of me keyboards in; GMMK, Razer Blackwidow, Corsair k100, Alienware AW410. My boss told me we were 15k under budget so she'd pick one up for me. She comes in with a Logitech Ergo k860, it's been a nearly 2 months with it sitting next to my desk and she asked me if it works. How to explain that this is just a shitty keyboard?

You could say it's underperforming and thus making your performance suffer. If she values feed back you could go into further details why it's subpar and make a suggestion that would drive performance. Bosses like to hear metric improvements. I just took my old k70 to work and I'm using that until the fucker dies then I'll probably buy my own keychron work keyboard. Seeing how she got you a some what expensive keyboard at least they provide decent stuff. My company provides doggshit 5 dollar membrane keyboards and I'd get a second hand old Microsoft ergo keb if I asked so I just brought my own.

15k under budget so she goes and pays $100 too much for what should be a $30 keyboard.

Tell her it's not what you expected and not what you needed. Apologize that you wont be using it but instant that if anyone in the office needs an upgrade you are sure they will love it.

I would further, shortly, explain that building keyboards is a bit of a hobby for you and a store bought board would be like handing a TV dinner to a chief.

Just tell her you tried it out and didn't like the way it felt and explain to her that you're one of us weird people who have custom mech keyboards lol and have like 4 keebs at the crib that you prefer over that one she bought you. Then ask for a raise since there's something left in the budget lol or point to a decent website site that she can purchase some pre makes and have here buy some dope ones for the whole team... and yiu all cam be cool

You could use the excuse that the ergo split board was difficult to acclimate to and use that as an opportunity to maybe show her a picture of the keyboard you intend to bring in and why it suits your needs best and hence increasing your productivity.

Wait, what does you bringing your own keyboard to the office have to do with your boss's budget??
