Oof too personal here. Wsb funded the other two for me at least. Both are greatly eclipsed by games though.

Feel like a weird math problem guy when I look at my budgeting lol

Meth probably. I never heard anyone successful that does meth. Cocaine would probably make you an entrepreneur or stock broker.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber we're meth heads at some point. There are a few videos of Justin tweaking like crazy while meeting a fan and there's also this gem

Apparently Selena's the enabler and some people are speculating that her Lupus diagnosis is either due to the abuse or related to it at the very least.

Paul Erdős for one. "A mathematician is a machine for turning amphetamines into theorems"

Productive users arent taking 200mg hits of crystal and not sleeping for 3 days, but that isn't what most meth amphetamine use looks like.

Uh... wasn't that caffeine?

1

InfanticideAquifer t1_jegp75t wrote

He said it about "coffee", but he was using amphetamines.

The original "coffee" is much better since there's the niche math joke "A cotheorem is a machine for turning comathematicians into ffee". "Amphetamines" doesn't start with "co", so the joke fails, disappointing the small number of people who would otherwise have enjoyed it.

Warhammer for sure

I hear MTG is even worse. Regular people dropping thousands on decks. At least with Warhammer the painting and storage slows you down.

goddamnitwhalen t1_jefo24t wrote

People will post photos on all the Warhammer subs of their “piles of shame” (unpainted figures) and it makes me dramatically uncomfortable, lol. They spend thousands of dollars on stuff that just sits in boxes on shelves.

Graveylock t1_jegdv4z wrote

Warhammer is much worse. MTG you can proxy with a printer and some paper. Warhammer is a bit harder to do that with.

Laughed loud on the "choose your own adventure game"... I'd add:

  • /r/EDC
  • /r/golf
  • /r/retrogaming (which I have a Miyoo Mini)
  • /r/modular/ (which unfortunately or fortunately I just lurk around

and you end-up developing a lot of creativity to have a different excuse to your wife every time you get some new thing...

For me it is skiing. The "starter vice" was a million years ago when I first went to a local hill and rented equipment for the day. Hell, maybe even the first time I ever went sledding around 5 years old.

Surprisingly, I never really do this for my keyboard/PC setup. I've been on my "final setup" for 3 years by now, I try to make hardware go for as long as possible. I think right at year 4 I need to buy a new radiator fan, but that's all I am planning on.

But with skiing I'm always upgrading even when I don't really need to, just to restart my gear life cycle. Sometimes I actually come out on top money wise, because my old gear was worth more even with one year used than the new shit to replace it. But it still takes over my life with searching online and watching every single review video I can for every piece of clothing/gear that is involved.

Not too big a deal as it's the only hobby/recreational activity I still spend money on. I just need to be very careful to keep it in check.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but I'm pretty sure I totally misunderstood the question. I thought the question was posed as "what things will ruin your life?", but now I realize it was meant as "what are some things that I can do to ruin my life". I had no intention for anyone to carry it out.
