I too use an oscilloscope as my main setup, reject cpu, embrace oscilloscope.

The old super-8 editor is really cool! Do the front-button and rotary-knobs do anything? Could perhaps turn on/off, scroll and adjust volume. Could maybe use https://github.com/omriharel/deej to get that going?

The switch controls the power, but the dial does nothing at the moment.... linking it to a rotary encoder while keeping it linked to the original mechanism would be a good idea

Pretty much.... some old amplifiers had vector-scopes on them but oscilloscopes are even better, and some talented people even made music specifically chosen to look good on an oscilloscope. I think I've put a link to the video somewhere in this thread...
