Like others have said IBM model m.

Both 1986 sqaure badge and Unicomp new model m are so satisfying.

The Mini m would be my top choice if getting one now, due to being new board with warranty and not having the numpad would be a huge plus for me. Availability might be lacking currently due to controller supply but they will get them back at some point.

I do tend to use my numpad a lot for cheatengine but it's still another keyboard to look into! I assume with the IBM model M I would need an adapter to make it USB. Would any work? Or would it need to be rewired?

Yes if you buy an actual Ibm model M, it will need an adapter. You can google there are a lot of information about which one, I think they are active converter which you need.

But the thing is you can buy a model from Unicomp:

  1. Is brand new
  2. Has warranty
  3. They just renewed the case tooling meaning the case feels solid and doesn't creek or feel flimsy like older unicomps.
  4. Is a real genuine Model m
  5. Key feel is practically same as other model m's
  6. Has native USB

I have a Unicomp Classic 101. The key clicks wake up the neighbours and it's heavy enough to kill a man. I love it.
