imagine your back hurts like hell from lubing switches all day and the last four springs are tangled like that and no matter how you shake they won't come apart :(

This is where baby springs come from.

Counter clockwise twisting is a lifehack. I usually have to use two sets of tweezers because of their size.

Can relate. Struggles of a bag luber.

richajf t1_iwq2ddv wrote

I grab two ends and very gently twist in opposite directions (right hand going counterclockwise). They usually come apart with no trouble at all. In a cluster like this though, I'll try different opposite ends until one comes out easily then go from there.

kazekashii t1_iwq43s8 wrote

Either try to get them parallel to each other or turn them in separate directions

Try this with the conical springs from a Topre keyboard... you will hate the world even more!

It's nature at work. They are fusing into a more powerful spring.

Nature sure is beautiful.

If the springs look tangled from the factory, the trick is to not spin or turn them, just separate them horizontally. They're not actually tangled, just crossed over each other.

I learned that if I do multiple boards worths of switches across like two weeks or something, my back is fine but my fingertips will start to dissolve for some reason

But they want to be together!!!! 😭 don’t tear them apart, for they will will forever be lonely in the switch.

QWERKey-UK t1_iwqsh4u wrote

It always happens a lot when you bag lube. Just "unscrew" them from one another.

1

kyle787 t1_iwqsycj wrote

If you put them in a zip lock and flick them several times they separate.

NonHuman3 t1_iwr0kct wrote

I grabbed one with a pair of tweezers, lift them in the air directly upward, and drop them, sometimes takes a few times, they usually untangle themselves doing that.

Competitive_Bat_ t1_iwr1xgb wrote

I bag lube my springs so this happens all the time. They come apart easily with tweezers. Just pull them apart gently.

1

N9neBreak3r t1_iwrbbv4 wrote

I use a toothpick to pick up my springs. Just shake em a bit in a bowl with a toothpick through one of em and theyll come apart

Okay unrelated to the original post but how do you like the LTs? I want another set of linears, love the U4Ts, and am deciding between LTs, Alpacas/Creampacas, and Lavenders.

chubbybunn89 t1_iwrg83h wrote

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person who likes lubing switches and untangling all the springs after bag lubing. I just put on a movie or tv show and enjoy the process.

Chevy_Monsenhor t1_iwrgs1g wrote

I bag lubed some springs a few weeks ago, I feel yah

FeministAsian t1_iwrkt3z wrote

Then the struggle of untangling them with your tweezers and then one slips and flings off somewhere. Such a pain

1

Radlyfe t1_iwrl0u2 wrote

I've tried the LTs before and I think that if you're looking for some linear long pole goodness, I would steer towards getting Prevail Nebulas instead. I don't really think it's fair game to compare the LTs to the Alpacas and Lavenders just because the long pole makes a pretty fair difference in feeling.

FaithlessnessMost660 t1_iwrzrgf wrote

This is at least 40% of my time lubing/modding switches. Bag lubing does save some time but it’s eaten up by how many end up like this.

2

TwistedPhocks t1_iwsajm9 wrote

You should be able to unscrew them from each other by twisting in opposite directions like a nut and bolt.

1

Tekn0z t1_iwsqw0b wrote

LTs easy to summarise. Sound is good but even after lubing is not very smooth. If you're looking for alpaca levels of smoothness, look elsewhere.

Just pick them up a few inches and drop them onto your work surface. At my job, I work with all sorts of springs and that's what I do when some come, inevitably, like this
