Ah the first timer’s premature lubing. I know it’s really exciting but you have to get her… its bottom housing off first.

XenophiliusRex t1_iy3m53q wrote

This shouldn't significantly affect the function of the switch once mostly cleaned off though. Also the worst case scenario is you have to chuck a switch worth at at most a a few ten cent coins instead of a motherboard and CPU potentially worth over $1,000.

2

Decent_Setting7204 t1_iy0696q wrote

You got it wrong. You don't put any thermalnpaste between cooler and cpu because they are perfectly flat.

Why is there more than one comment with “/s” when referring to lick the lube?? Is this a recurring event?

Run-Riot t1_ixwzy1o wrote

This is a community built upon people spending hundreds of dollars on little square pieces of plastic, then waiting years for those little bits of plastic to materialize.

Do not underestimate our capacity for bad decisions.

Remote_Cartoonist_27 t1_ixwlbxa wrote

A little soapy water will take it off, just make sure it’s completely dry before using/reapplying the lube

3

snolax_ t1_ixwpcrw wrote

90% isopropyl alcohol. don’t use soapy water man :(

11

Remote_Cartoonist_27 t1_ixwyzqp wrote

You can use water on mechanical parts just not computerized parts. alcohol may not get all the lube off depending on what it’s made of.

Soapy water almost definitely will though

I often dilute lube with iso in order to bag lube with it, as the iso dries up and leaves lube

Also just a toothbrush and some soap will clean that off the pins too

2

_GGfighter_ t1_ixxyteh wrote

stop cumming on your switches and use lube, it dries much slower

QWERKey-UK t1_ixy0bae wrote

Happens to us all at some point. Just use what's on that switch. Seriously, there's enough lube on that to almost do a whole keyboard. Just put the jar away and use what's on that switch :)
