ordered some switch pads as i’m afraid of ESD killing my board.

nevermind. i might just risk the PE foam and do the real deal. going to use the foam that was included in the packaging from the board.

I used the foam that was included and nothing happened for the past like half year I had my keyboard.

sounds good. how do you install it on the gmmk pro? does it go between the pcb and the already installed foam?

1

yosi_yosi t1_j20fxft wrote

Yes if I remember correctly. If it is between the pcb and plate it should be fine.

trying it now. thanks!

I also think you have to cut out places for the stabs.

Okay just got a keyboard but is PE foam really worth it and is it for everyone?

Really depends on what sound you want. It's supposed to give a "marbly" sound. My take on it is that PE foam usually comes with keyboard kits, so the material is already there for you to try it out. If you use it and find that the result isn't for you, just remove and find something else to mod the keeb.

Did the same to mine. Stock stabs were so overlubed that I gave up and ordered durock v2. Lubed them by myself and switched the plate to polycarbon. God bless

“GOAT”s indeed :// mine were so mucked up with lube they were unusable out of the box. is that the ALU plate? wdyt of it?

CynderPC OP t1_j216hff wrote

it is the aluminum plate. my first non gamer KB. so my input isn’t very knowledgeable but i like it. my stabs were okay but the left shift was super rattly i even tried to relube them to the best of my ability by taking some of the excess from the space, and reapplying it to my shift. (that was before i had lube of my own)

red_roses- t1_j219sff wrote

mm gotcha, yeah I tried salvaging my original stabs too but gave up lol. hope the new ones are working better for you!

I would highly suggest watching this video if you plan to buy one. It's an exhaustive review of the GMMK Pro with a bunch of tips on modding to try and add some flex to the plate and PCB. In my opinion though, modding it for flex is not worth the effort. It's not enough to make a meaningful difference and stiff kits aren't inherently bad anyway. That's purely preference, and the GMMK Pro is a perfectly fine kit so long as you replace the shitty GOAT stabs with something better like Durock V2s. If it comes with their newer GSV2 stabs then those might be fine too.

More importantly though...just get a Keychron Q1. The Q1 doesn't do anything fancy or new either, but I've used both kits and held them in my hands and the Q1 just looked and felt better in every respect. So if you like the black, silver or blue colors Keychron offers, then get the Q1. The GMMK Pro used to be competitive, but that's not really the case any longer. The Q1 is in the same price bracket and is pretty much an identical layout if you get the knob version.

If you specifically want a bouncy gasket mount kit, then consider the Tiger Lite from KBDfans. It might be a plastic kit, but it's a proper gasket mount kit with tons of bounce, and it has some cool case color options to choose from. I think they just restocked all the colors too.
