Cherry originally did this to their blue switches. If you want to imorove blues, jailhouse mod is the way.

i think most people dont know that blues were orginally pre-lubed to avoid the click sound and the jacket was just to introduce hysteresis (might be misremembering tho)

i think then people asked to not lube so they could get audible feedback like the typewriters and buckling springs etc had/have

I don't know why but for some reason I feel like there's a slow moving ceiling fan in the background and some 70's funk playing on the radio

Either a crime or a fix depending on your view of clicky switches

Do you have a before / after example? What type of lube is that?

Shave the bump with a razor blade if you hate clicks. And lube. You’ll have an interesting switch. I’m still not sure how to feel about it though .

imo outemu blues are horrible no matter what you do lmao

Actually the lube was so much that it formed a second wall around the stem, so it's like a cherry MX brown

Serious question:

I have a cheap board with Otemu blues that I used a few years ago when I had an office job. Got a new job and will be back in an office half the time. The switches are a bit scratchy and have a metallic ping. What can I do to improve the experience?

AlphaTecBoards OP t1_j2fmt5j wrote

Honestly? If it's not hotswap, I'd recommend spaying them with some silicone grease. If you can easily swap switches, get anything other than outemu switches. Good cheap options are gateron pro v2 and v1s , as well as akko switches in general.

Not swappable.

AlphaTecBoards OP t1_j2fp84u wrote

Alright, feel free to dm me so I can explain how to lube them with spay lube or just search: "how to lube switches without desoldering". Also consider adding some foam below the PCB or some cotton between the PCB and the top

Ofunatoofunato t1_j2fq6b2 wrote

Thanks for the help! I have some foam and will try to open up the case. I think I can manage lubing.
