What are your overall thoughts on the board? I've been heavily considering a Q10 or some kind of Alice for an "endgame" build.

I bought an Alice style board not knowing if I'd like it (KBDFans Maja), but it's great. 10/10 for me. I prefer TKL or 65% layouts, and the 'Alice + arrow keys' layout works perfectly for me.

rikvelasquez t1_j2aboa8 wrote

Currently use a Logitech ergo K860 at work and used a Mistel split MD770 for years now have the KBD Maja V2 which is almost perfect but no F row

rikvelasquez t1_j2ab6sr wrote

I also want an Alice with F row endgame, I have a Q1 V2 which I like after heavily modded but the build quality is not endgame I.e. alu case is nothing special, no brass weight or mounting options, pcb is also fine but no flex cuts or layout options, want to wait for a group but ergo TKL but all these Q10 posts will make me cave

Didnโ€™t know they made that! I have the Q8 and I love it but I do miss the f-row keys

Anyone game with this layout? How would a Q0 line up next to one of these? I used to use Microsoft Natural boards years ago and do miss some hand position angle but not sure I want to go full ergomech. Also like having numpad for work so the 1800 layout works well for me..

2

Raikagete t1_j2bp907 wrote

Might not be what your after cause I'm a left-handed numpad user but here's the Q0 next to the Q10.

2

snekasaur t1_j2bqdy4 wrote

Thanks! Your setup looks nice (despite that crazy layout.. first time seeing that). I'm a righty but this gives a good idea. Is the right side of the board the same height? I'm kinda crazy and the mismatched heights doesn't sit right with me. I'd want the cases to line right up.

2

Zaphoed t1_j2ds42w wrote

Yes they are the same height. I had a different num pad and it bugged me they weren't different heights

NuclearFossil_esq t1_j29d2re wrote

Did you spray/paint the case yourself?

1

bchn OP t1_j29db3m wrote

Nope! Itโ€™s the purple Keychron Q10

13

NuclearFossil_esq t1_j29dzvs wrote

Did you order it direct? Sorry for the 20 questions, but I'm considering picking one up

4

athomp63 t1_j2a94wg wrote

It only comes in purple as a barebone (non ISO I think) and not the prebuilts like the others

3

NuclearFossil_esq t1_j2a9tm8 wrote

Ahh, OK. Was looking on the main keychron site. I see that https://www.mechanicalkeyboards.com/ has the purple barebones.

2

Word_Salad_9445 t1_j2bs7d1 wrote

I'm so glad you posted this - I had no idea the Q10 was available in purple. It's odd that Keychron doesn't sell the purple model on its own website. I wonder if the purple one is some sort of "exclusive" for mechanicalkeyboards.com.

1

gbfaccount t1_j2c962s wrote

It's on Keychron .com too, it just only shows the colors available for the "Type" you have selected, so it doesn't show up unless you click Barebone Knob.

Looks like you're probably on a local site instead of the .com? Those only show what they stock locally I think, it's right there on the global site:

keychron com/products/keychron-q10-alice-layout-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard?variant=40283921121369

1

NuclearFossil_esq t1_j2e4ah6 wrote

Ah, that would do it. Yeah, I'm on the Canadian version of the site.

Don't really want to deal with import duties/costs.

1

gbfaccount t1_j2e57ta wrote

Could possibly contact the CA store and see if they would be able to stock it, or maybe see if someone's selling a used one locally I guess.

Arili_O t1_j2a8s19 wrote

Love the color of the case! The keys are a little blue/violet for me but I'm a weird person about matchy-matchy stuff. It looks comfortable!

FallenCow t1_j2aq3rd wrote

Howโ€™s the typing feel and sound? Love the layout but afraid it might be a step down after being used to premium customs.

1

SinningStromgald t1_j2auh7d wrote

Have the Q8 and it's a "thop" sound and the keystrokes are very smooth. Board weights ~1ton so it's not going anywhere. Seriously, the board is bloody heavy which I was not expecting after the K6 being fairly light.

1

FallenCow t1_j2azo11 wrote

Appreciate the mini-review! How's the gasket implementation? Does it have a soft enough typing feel? Don't anything super flexy, but softer than top mount would be nice.

0

GCamAdvocate t1_j2b5qav wrote

It's like all other q series so it is quite soft. There is significant flex. Much softer than top mount.

rthee t1_j2bimk0 wrote

Nice! Just converted alice layout after 4 years of splits (with the last two years with a dactyl).

Love the ergo of dactyl/split but wanted something more โ€œpremiumโ€ after years of DIY and no options for a one ton steel case dactyl off the shelf sadly!

Loving the Q10 if only Keychron makes a Q series dactyl!

disarmyouwitha t1_j2bq8uj wrote

I really donโ€™t like the look of Alice with F keys but itโ€™s really pretty purple. =]

Parable4 t1_j2c7hsv wrote

Do the split spacebar keys both function as space or do they perform separate inputs?

1

mayostack t1_j2cfdbx wrote

They should both be spacebars. But it's qmk compatible so you can reprogram one if you want

99_chill t1_j2cjw31 wrote

I have an Alice-style board that I've used as my daily driver for a year-ish, and it's wonderful. The slightly-canted layout makes for a much more natural wrist position, and now I notice that my wrists are awkwardly turned inwards when I use a 'normal' board.

Pair an Alice board with an MX Vertical Mouse from Logitech for ergonomic bliss!

8

Dakota347 t1_j2a8wgg wrote

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but my wrists aren't at funky angles with a normal board, but ty for explaining.

−1

BewilderedAnus t1_j2b3cve wrote

Your wrists certainly are at funky angles when you type with a normal board. You're just used to it.

9

retirba t1_j2c0sbi wrote

Unless your keyboard is legitimately as wide as your shoulders, your wrists are not in a neutral position.

4

gbfaccount t1_j2c758l wrote

It's pretty easy to put your hands on the board at natural angles and be like "yeah I can type like this," but if you actually record yourself typing naturally at least one hand will end up turned 'outward' some. It's something everyone is used to and it's not a huge deal if you're not typing a bunch all day, but the alice style boards let you actually keep that "natural" position a lot more closely even when not thinking about it. It's kinda like getting a chair with good lumbar support.

I just recently switched to a Feker Alice80 and it's just about perfect for me. The only thing it was missing was the function key row.

I've used TKL's in the past and have an ergodox that I was using religiously right up until the Feker landed. Can't see ever going back.
