You're disappointed that you didn't check the keycaps for row compatibility before buying them?

Gotta make sure you have the right keycaps on the right rows before purchase. You bought one with very basic compatibility.

I checked before buying, and it is stated to be compatible with K6 keyboards.

I guess it is. Just not in the configuration you want for the side keys.

Love me a smart ass. It can say compatible for your keyboard but the extra keys as those he’s mad about have that problem with almost every 60-70% board. I’ve bought over 40 keycap sets abs have a closet full of boards. I prefer xda or something if same height on my 60 percent boards to present this. Even 200 group buy keycaps have this problem. Don’t listen to these ass holes @peter_picture the fact they expect you to zoom in and study every photo of a listing is wild. Idk about them but I don’t have them much time to wast, I work all day 8-8 running my own stuff. Don’t have time to stare at at photos for 3 hours

ExplodingSquidOfDoom t1_j1djpnh wrote

What the literal fuck? Every fucking set of caps I've bought list the fucking row type for every key. Not once have I had to "zoom in and study every photo". And to boot I run a Moonlander so good fucking luck buying a single set. Bitter fuck, running a Minecraft server isn't running your own stuff.

Edit: actually from your post history I gather Reddit runs your shit for you. I applaud telling OP not to feel bad, as they shouldn't, but seriously what the fuck is the rest of that garbage.

SmallPotatoK t1_j1ctqo1 wrote

First of all, reason why they could say compatible and you would find it not working out is because not everyone uses the same key layout as you would, so while it might be compatible with a certain set of layouts on that row, it might not with others. Second of all, you dont need to… “zoom in” it usually lists the actual row on the side of the picture with the keycaps, if you care enough to make sure if it fits the keys and rows that you prefer, it would take you 10 seconds maxed to skim through it (might I add, un-zoomed photo is clear enough unless you are using a brick)

P/S: “I don’t have them much time to waste”… oh mate your comment says otherwise xD

peter_picture OP t1_j1a0bp2 wrote

I should put the RGB button below as well. It's as tall as Pgdn. The problem is that that is their position for the keyboard layout. I wrote a comment describing my overall issues.

Cjhwahaha t1_j1a5cat wrote

You can just remap the keys after you've adjusted the key cap positions.

16

Hunter512 t1_j1a24rf wrote

You can use the intended ordering of the keycap set - PgUp, PgDown, then Home - and use 3rd party software to remap your keys to what is indicated by the keycap set.

12

peter_picture OP t1_j1a2tar wrote

Do you know any such software that works with this keyboard? I read conflicting info about taht when google it.

2

Kjleone19 t1_j1a43hx wrote

You can use powertoys for windows to remap. It’s developed by microsoft

13

peter_picture OP t1_j1cq7rd wrote

So, while Powertoys helped with the Pgup, Pgdn, and Home keys, it couldn't swap my Ctrl Right key for Alt Right, for some reason, preventing me to type € or @ on ITA layout. I ended up using Sharpkeys to solve that. So I would say it is a more powerful software. Just sharing it in case someone needs it.

Use via to reprogram the keys?

2

peter_picture OP t1_j1acbcg wrote

I tried, but it's not detected by the software. Powertoys worked though, but that's because it overrides Windows or something like that I guess.

0

RickyOMG t1_j1b3d9u wrote

You should be able to use VIA, but you need to be plugged in wire for it to be detected and if it still doesn't work, then you need to import the JSON file, it should be on Keychron's website. Once you set it up, you can be wireless and won't be depended on Windows to remap so you can use on different computers etc.

2

peter_picture OP t1_j1b45up wrote

Yes I was on wire while using VIA. I read Keychron's guidelines, but I haven't find any JSON file. I'll check that tomorrow. I really need it, because I found out I miss the Alt Gr key, and Powertoys doesn't allow me to add it. And with the ITA layout that means I can't do things such as € and @. Which is very annoying.

2

RickyOMG t1_j1b5tr7 wrote

ohh, maybe only the Pro model has VIA, after a quick google, the regular one doesn't seem as straight forward, I see, good luck.

2

peter_picture OP t1_j1ck5ac wrote

That is what I immediately found as well, but still tried VIA and it didn't work, of course.

2

thinkingdots t1_j1buhz1 wrote

I think you need to turn your keyboard 90 degrees clockwise or it will be very hard to type

2

visual-vomit t1_j1cmk0t wrote

I'd just buy some blank white keycaps honestly, it's only 3 keys so memorising them wouldn't take long at all.

2

peter_picture OP t1_j1cnnty wrote

That could actually be a nice solution. Thank you for the suggestion! :)

2

peter_picture OP t1_j1cpw2h wrote

So I ended up solving the issue for both the special keys on the right and the inability to type € using Sharpkeys. Essentially, I was missing the Alt Right key, preventing me to type € and even @ for how the ITA layout works. I changed the Ctrl Right for Alt Right and I was good to go. Powertoys software didn't allow me to do so, and VIA does not support my keyboard at all.

Pgup, Pgdn, and Home were remapped as well. I will look for artisans' or blank keycaps for those, though, since the Pgup key is the same height as the RGB control key, and it's a punch in the eye to look at, personally.

Thanks to all who actually tried to help me. But I will avoid seeking help on this subreddit next time. Maybe it was my fault for the title I chose, but too many smartasses misunderstood my post.

2

TypicalCoach6376 t1_j1a6yp0 wrote

That doesn't mean they're compatible. I'm fairly certain that is just showing off what it looks like on the other models with the proper sets. I could be mistaken though.

What you probably bought:

https://www.keychron.com/collections/iso-ansi-jis-keycaps/products/iso-q1-k2-oem-dye-sub-pbt-keycap-set-blue?variant=39414490202201

That’s for the Q1 and K2 only. The box from Keychron is always the same regardless of what’s inside.

Currently they don’t have matching keycaps on offer for most of their K-series boards. Maybe you can still find them somewhere, though, because they used to be available less than a year ago. Alternatively you might find a fitting set from Glorious or a similar vendor.

2

peter_picture OP t1_j1ec3cz wrote

Yeah, I only now realise this. But I managed to solve my issues anyway, if you check my other comments. I will probably buy some artisans or blank keycaps to swap the ones not fitting. I don't want to buy another kit because I planned this build specifically around it. ITA ISO sets are very rare, and finding a good one with pleasant colours is quite the hassle.

So, I bought a Wireless Keychron K6 65%, ISO UK layout because it was the only one left available. I am Italian, and I really wanted a new ISO ITA keyboard. For that, I decided to buy an Italian keycap set. Said set is stated to be compatible with K6 keyboards, and yet here are the Pgup and Pgdn keys too tall for the position in which they must be put.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Should I contact Keychron to see if they can solve the issue? Or do you know if it's possible to remap a K6 with some third-party software? A quick research online showed me it is not possible with this specific model. Also, the symbol doesn't work. I should be able to input it with Alt Gr+E, but it doesn't work, even if I am using ITA layout on Windows.

Could anyone give me any advice?

Does the board run in Win or Mac Mode? Had the same problem with a former board, € was not working because it was in Mac Mode.

No, it's in Windows mode. Everything seems to work except that, which is very annoying because I use that symbol very often for work.

if you bought from Keychron none of the ISO sets promise K6 compatibility.

Anyway, I have the keycap set box in front of me and there are all the compatible keyboards I mentioned above, included the K6.

1

MayAsWellStopLurking t1_j1akttw wrote

I edited my post after re-reading your comments and looking at the keycap colours.

If the box promises k6 compatibility (unlike the store listings for each of the ITA-ISO sets) then you could ask Keychron for a partial refund or a store credit but they’re unlikely to process a full refund even if you offered to pay for shipping.

You might be able to convince them to credit the amount towards a keycap set that does have full compatibility

MayAsWellStopLurking t1_j1akxm0 wrote

Also also, if you’ve got a mac, Karabiner can remap keys. Autohotkey is what you want for PC

There you have it. It says Q1 and K2, but the box illustrates it is actually compatible with K4, K6, K8, and K-12 keyboards.

−1

realSeRyx t1_j1a32xz wrote

But they're made for Q1 & K2. Looks like you bought the wrong set. Try to use to re-map the keys and change the order to pg-up, pg-dn, home

WozNZ t1_j1a6nga wrote

That link points to a cap set that is NOT compatible with your board it is for Q1 & K2 ONLY!!!!

Looks like none of the ISO sets are compatible with your board tbh. This is the reason I only buy cap sets that have loads of extra caps to cover the extra layouts.

I would reach out to Keychron, say you purchased the wrong set and see if they can help you and either send or let you purchase the required caps
